Just got State of the Nu-Art 2, on blue planet. Firstly, does anyone know whether this actually just came out, or did it only just make it to Reach'n Records in Sydney? Second question: Disk 2 has 12 tracks in its tracklisting, but the actual CD only has 11 tracks. What's more, the track lengths don't match up - not that they do properly on Endlessnessism either, it's very hard to do that prior to the final CD Mastering - but the mismatch is quite extreme, with Witchman's mix of Jammin' Unit listed as 10:46 and only making it to 6:13. A couple of other tracks seem to be shorter than they're meant to be (not that they sound it!), with the others being all a few seconds longer, except that the Friends, Lovers and Family track (#7) doesn't seem to exist at all (well that's the way *I* interpret it, it may in fact be a different track that was missed...) Does anyone know if this was a pressing mistake for the whole CD or a printing mistake or what? Does anyone else have a copy of the album with the same problem, or indeed *without* the problem? Perturbed, Peter. np: Massive Attack - Mezzanine. I disagree with whoever from before, I think it's a fantastic album but that "Teardrop" is one of the most beautiful things they've ever done. Liz Frazer works her magic as usual. The 2CD promo that I have just traded with someone on this list seemed to have all the tracks present (ie. 12 on the 2nd CD) - not entirely sure if the track listing was correct though, but it sounded to be. Cheers, Aca * * Home Page = http://www.personal.leeds.ac.uk/~eclaca *

Nah, i've had it for two months or so.

Yes, i have the same problem on my CD. Supposedly, the first batch of SOTNAvol2 was all messed up like this, and instead of fixing it, they thought it would be to their economic advantage to sell them anyway. And yes, I'm pretty sure it is the Friends Lovers and Family track that is missing from side two. -mc

(Thanks Aca). Yes, the promo does have 12 tracks on the second CD. The promo has no artwork or running times so I can't comment on those but I have included the track times as given by my system, so that you can figure out what is missing. I remember that a number of people mentioned this problem at the time of the release and the mastering plant was blamed for the omission, if I remember correctly. Thanks for that Wez! The weird thing is, this all corresponds closely enough with my CD, and yes definitely the friends, lovers & family track is missing, but the bedouin ascent track is not 7:40 as you specify (and which is approximately what is listed on the CD cover) but in fact 9:50. *Very* weird - continuity-wise, the 9:50 track on my CD is unbroken, nothing extra seems to have been added. So how come your mix is shorter? Another weird thing: what's the length of that 12-track CD of yours? 'Coz it's gotta be about 79:30 by my reckoning, which is the longest CD I know of! Certainly with a "full length" version of the bedouin ascent track (which is great by the way, up to kingsuk biswas' usual standards), we'd be over the limit for a CD... so perhaps they got the wrong mix of that track and couldn't fit everything else on? Hmm. So, Wezz: what's the friends, lovers & family track like then? Worth my searching out a copy of the proper disk? And also, does the bedouin ascent sound like it's been cut in some way? The longer mix starts quite ambientish, the beats only kick in a little later (maybe a minute or so in)... I don't know is it the same track? - I haven't seen the official release around lately. The track on the promo is called 'Onyx Electra' and it is as you describe at the start - "quite ambientish, the beats only kick in a little later (maybe a minute or so)". It does start to fade out after 7.25 though, so maybe it has been artificially shortened.

According to my system, CD1 lasts 78.26 and CD2 lasts 79.26, the first volume also lasts about 79 minutes, so Blue Planet obviously like to give good value for money.

It's good but probably not worth shelling out for another copy of the disc. It has a hip-hop feel with a prominent bass line, some scratchy sounds and various vocal sounds - some samples and some grunts. It grooves along very nicely and then just abruptly finishes with no warning. You're better off with the extra 2 minutes of Bedouin Ascent, unless you're a big FLF fan. All the best, Wezz ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

Ya know... I was so busy being impressed with the tracks... I've had both discs in my car changer and hadn't even noticed the track list problem... Until now. Blue Planet has a good thing going, but it's a shame they went ahead and put out the goofs (if indeed they knew).

Recently, I was able to give State of the Nu-art 2 cd set a listen/skip through. Not surprisingly, Walker & M.Flux's track was the best of the bunch *by far*, with Bowling Green's track coming in a close second. I'd never heard anything by Bowling Green before. Is this an unusual track for them or is it typical of their output? Do they have any other releases? The majority of the rest of the tracks sounded uninspired & lifeless, yet completely familiar in a generic way. similar to how breakbeats got so boring when no one used anything but that damned Amen break (or whatever), time and again (can you say "Alec Empire"?) Anyone interested in doing a tape trade? (Puckered1, do you have this?) I've got an extensive collection of stuff by Walker and the rest of the Cologne posse to offer (dubbed) in return. - Charles __________________________________________________________ Techno 12"s & CDs for sale: http://members.aol.com/perv303/forsale.html Latest additions: Studio 1 12"s, 1-8 __________________________________________________________
