I was looking through some papers, and came across a note from last year reminding myself to buy "Sacrilege," the Can remix thingy. I never did buy the album, but is it worth doing so? Speaking of German music, I picked up CMJ yesterday, and this month's free CD has one SCARY song on it - Hammstein's "Du Hast." I don't often hear songs that make me feel like I'm in trouble! It's like getting yelled at! Thanks -Sw np: DJ Cam - DJ Kicks

No, not really. I bought it when it came out and was sorely disappointed, save for one or two highlights (as mentioned in other posts here already). I'd say don't bother.

Is this *R*ammstein? They were also on Lynch's soundtrack to The Lost Highway (kinda befitting to that movie :-) ) NOT a happy sounding bit of music, is theirs .... named after an air-show disaster in which a burning plane plummeted into the spectators - so what can you expect. If you're really into Can, some of these interpretations are VERY well done.. notably the UNKLE mix of Vitamin C and Carl Craig's Future Days.. I haven't listened to it in a while, maybe I should pop it in. -mc

I would never recommend Sacrilege over any of the original recordings at all.. I was the guy that asked the question owned these records already. By no means do the remixes surpass the original Can albums. Tago Mago, EgeBamYasi, and Soon Over Babaluma are all essentials. -mc

Can't argue with the advice to find original Can albums, I've gotta put a word in for Carl Craig here...Carl _is_ still the man. Wait until the new album comes out; from what I've heard he's working with Francisco Mora & Rodney Whitaker as Innerzone Orchestra. This trio re-worked Carl's classic "Bug in the Bassbin" about 2 years ago to great effect, and it's a great team-up. Simply put, the Innerzone Orchestra live show this past Christmas was the best live PA I've ever seen, bar none. It blended the improvisation and sound of jazz with the spirit of Carl's techno studio work, and they pulled it off beautifully. Carl's still the man... i agree.... the jazz reworking was excellent... but it was still just a remix ofan old classic... i found landcruising very uninspiring and cold..... very similar to Kenny Larkins recent output... it just doesnt touch the older stuff...

Actually, that sounds like an *act* called Ege Bam Yasi. He's this baldy bloke from Edinburgh who friends with Finitribe (He's released some stuff on Finiflex) who does "old-style" acid house stuff. About Can, my advice is: stick to the originals. If you don't have Tago Mago, Ege Bamyasi, Future Days and Soon Over Babaluma, get them ASAP for instant aural satori.
