The Lalo Schifrin single for Bullitt with Black Dog remixes is out tommorrow... I've heard the UK will have it everywhere, but anyone know the status of the single for us US folks? I'm dying to hear it, but fear it'll turn out to be one of those... gots to mailorder items... I've noticed lately that pretty much EVERYTHING I buy is done via mailorder... getting upsetting... no good stores... maybe I'll open one =) Chris brap@sonic.net http://www.sonic.net/~brap/ Black Dog, Dot, Genesis P-Orridge, Whitezone-L, etc. C.Gosselin, PO Box 8264, Santa Rosa, CA 95407

My stars and garters, saints be praised! Lalo Shifrin -- who wrote the theme for Mission Impossible in all it's 5/4 glory?

Yes, Lalo Schifrin, who's been nominated for six Academy Awards, has credits from 1964 ('Rhino!') to the present day ('Money Talks'), established much of the musical vocabulary we associate with urban crime drama with 'Bullitt,' 'Mannix,' 'Starsky and Hutch,' 'Telefon,' and the 'Dirty Harry' films, and has scored films ranging from utter crap ('The Nude Bomb,' 'Caveman,' 'The Cat from Outer Space') to great ('Enter the Dragon,' 'THX 1138,' 'The President's Analyst'), but for some reason only occupies the public mind, if at all, as the composer of the 'Mission: Impossible' theme. Unless it is possible to smoke a Potatoe."

You know, I AM aware of his other work Chris. Unlike most of you young whippersnappers, I first heard the MI theme on the first night they showed Mission Impossible. Even if it's now a cliche, try listening again to it -- pay attention to the percussion -- it's fucking brilliant. And if you can imagine it's impact back in the day when NO ONE had heard anything like that. Dave Brubeck had done "Take Five" a few years before, but Lalo found the soul of 5/4. Which is why the black dog remixes were a great idea waiting to happen. Enough of the Burt Bacharach revival bullshit -- bring back Lalo Shifrin and Ennio Morricone! --------------------------------------------------------------------- "Psyche manifests as psychic through something we call 'winding', because it twists, and puts things that were far apart next to each other, complicatedly, taffywise." -- winona on channel 78 Kent Williams kent@inav.net -- http://soli.inav.net/~kent

actually, i'm kinda sick of ennio morricone sampling. seems like every 3rd record i buy has an EM sample on it. (stuff i have in my bag today with EM samples: fsol "my kingdom" and cibo matto) more lalo would be just fine tho. -- Jon Drukman jsd@gamespot.com SpotMedia Communications ...I was an infinitely hot and dense dot...

Not to rain on anyones party, but it's release has been postponed for 2 weeks, so Warner Bros can promote it properly. Can't remember the exact date but it's either the 12th or 13th of October. Regards, John
