hey kids, well, i just returned home from the aphex/sneaker pimps show at the guverment in toronto. firstly, sneaker pimps blew. that girl couldn't carry a tune if it was in a paper sack. sorry to say it, but it's all true:-( luke vibert spun in between live acts and he played just about what i had hoped and expected. a fairly eclectic mix of d&b with some kookiness thrown in for good measure. afx seems to be palying the same set on each night. the tracks were pretty well what has been posted here. the bears were fun and quite randy! there was no little house. richard sat on a sofa (a nice one as well!) and he had his gear on a coffee table. the oddest things that took place during the show were: 1) one of the bears ripped off his suit and proceeded to shave his head right there on stage. and 2)someone (maybe the bear guy) came out during 'come to daddy' (last track) wearing only a towel. he was dancing around with a cup of water in his hand and then whoosh! at the same time he hoisted the water on the crowd, he ripped the towel off and did a little happy dance in his birthday suit. in one fell swoop, afx one upped marilyn manson BIG TIME!!! the show was very cool. loud and very heavy. there were a few confused kids holding their ears but most people seemed to be having a cool enough time. my only complaint is that not enough people were dancing. i was shaking my ass like mad! after it was over i got to go over to richard and say hello. he was very nice and took time to chat with a few kids and sign some shit. the prize winner, a girl had her asthma puffer (ventolin, of course!) richard took it from her and laughed. he then took two huge huffs and signed it for her. what a fond memory that will make! another trainspotter story for the grandkids!! anyway, this concludes the wrap up from toronto! later, peace, love and ambience. d... d@techno.ca orbital@clo.com http://www.clo.com/~orbital

This scared me and amused me all at the same time. I knew it was going to happen, because I read all the other reviews... but it was just strange.

Doh. When was this? I left after everyone stopped screaming for an encore. Speaking of blew, why the hell was the Linoluem there?? If I wanted to see an alternative band, I would have gone to an alternative show. But then again the event was sponsored by some local alternative station in toronto. Aphex = alternative, nah!

Luke started the night by spinning some old skool tune and throwing in some Ninja cuts. After the boring Linoluem set, Luke kicks it off again with the Tom Tom Club following by some Grand Master Flash and more old skool before he kicks in some electro funk. Then after the Speaker Pimps set, the MC yells out something like 'Now for your drum and bass pleasure, give it up for DJ Plug' Plug, Vibert, what's the diffence, its still the same bloody guy!! The Drum and bass sets somes off really nice but in the end, it gets boring, and really repetative.

Yup, the sofa was nice. afx comes on and lays sideway on the sofa, looking mighty comfy while my legs and back were sore as hell. He kicked in with a tune off saw 85-92, can't remember which at the moment. Basically I know he played boy/girl, digeridoo, come to daddy adn etc, although I was disapointed he didn't play more stuff off of 'I care..' like the first track :( Anyways, by the end of the night, I had the biggest ringing in my ears ever, and its still a little stuff while I'm typing this message.

haha, kids with their parents, I can never go to a show like aphex or autechre with my mommy and daddy, haha. And as for dancing, I tried, but dancing just isn't my thing and I felt quite foolish attempting it :)

Damn, I missed this, I was leaving feeling pissed off that Richard didn't do an encore, oh well. I guess overall it was a good night, although another thing I was mad about was they didn't have any aphex t-shirt for sale. I was really looking forward to getting one!! AtL-5

Ungh, will you kids never learn! Repeated exposure to music at levels that cause your ears to ring WILL cause permanent hearing damage. Look forward to that hearing aid in your forties or even worse a lifetime of permanently ringing ears - a condition which is so horrible it's not uncommon for its sufferers to contemplate suicide (ask Pete Townsend). I never go to shows anymore without earplugs after a scare I had a couple years ago where after a show my ears rang for about 3 weeks straight. I went to the doctor who informed me that it was entirely possible that my ears might never stop ringing and that I may have caused permanent damage to my ears. Wearing earplugs in noway diminshes your enjoyment at shows and even better you can listen to whatever you want on the way home without it hurting the hell out of your aching ringing ears - you also get a sound nights sleep. YES ! I wish to have this blown up and mounted for my husband, who owns recording studio, and (mistakenly, IMO) believes that it is *vital* to play everything at volume 11 and blast people with a wall of noise till they're stuck like flies against the rear wall. I just want to say that I have minimal tinnitus(permanent ringing in the ears) from loud music exposure. I agree absolutely with this asessment of the situation. If you don't wear earplugs you could end up like me, don't be stupid. There's no cure for it. B R E N D E N
