I recently came across a review of a release from Bernd Friedman (aka Nonplace Urban Field) called "Leisure Zones" on Ash International and was very intrigued by the concept. Has anyone heard this before, and if so what did you think?? I love the only N.U.F. album I own, "raum auf notizen" (I think that's what it's called off the top of my head...hey I'm no German major :~} ). Looking forward to some "intelligent" responses, Andrew Minett P.S. What the hell's with this dissing of Autechre's album "Amber". Of the stuff I own by them (Envane, Incunabula, Anvil Vapre, and the Gescom tracks off the Skampler) I think it's their most solid release, and very un-orbital-like (not a word you use everyday now, eh?). BTW, orbital ain't that bad, at least their last two albums in my opinion...Oh and one more thing: I ordered the CD Ellipsis by Scorn today. The person at the store couldn't tell me if it was the remixes CD or the other (if the other even exists). So my question is: Is Ellipsis only with the remixes? Thanks ever so kindly for any help. np: Skampler (I like this, I like it a lot!!!!)

Looking forward to some >"intelligent" responses, very close... _Raum F?r Notizen_ - Room for Notes. _Leisure Zones_ is very much an Ash International release, for what that's worth. Friedmann puts aside the basslines and the beats of his better-known projects (Drome, NUF, Some More Crime) and delivers a thoroughly experimental record - muted environmental ambience. one 77:78 piece, crafted to serve as background music for breakfasting on a balcony with the traffic in the distance (Friedmann's words, not mine...) or for entering/exiting the hypnagogic state [you know, semi-consciousness between dream and waking states]. That translates into a series of beautifully linked peripheral sounds and windy low-frequencies. something like MAIN or the Laswell/Harris _Somnific Flux_ album. very similar to what Bernhard G?nter does. especially when the frazzled electronic noises intrude. while listening to it again before writing this, dogs in the neighbor's yard started barking... i had to << the disk several times before i could be certain that they weren't actually ON the record. THAT sort of album... but it's all far from boring, _Leisure Zones_ is mesmerizing. Friedmann adds just enough sonic variety - clangs and clongs of unknown origin, metallic harmonics, vibrations of every color - to keep your ears on the music. that's very difficult to do, and the album must be seen as a classic example of its type. Friedmann explained how _Leisure Zones_ fits in with his Nonplace Urban Field recordings. but you'll have to wait for IMMERSE 003 for that... hope this helped. It's a cool record in a minimal sort of way. It's completely un-IDM but intelligent nevertheless. The recording consists of one long 74 min track of droning, echoey, industrial ambient soundscapes. Sometimes quiet, sometimes booming, sometimes reverberating. A variety of sounds overlay the background subwoofer-friendly booming: clicks, buzzes, tinkles, water, etc. I quite like this experimental approach and the results themselves. There are two other NUF rekkids...the first just called NUF, and the latest one which remixes the record you have---excellent, excellent d-n-b, trip hop, and ambient dub. Keep your eye on this guy. On now: Amberdelic Space...a great cheap comp...I think I have most of this 4CD set on vinyl, and scattered on CDs, but not in one place for 22 bucks.
