OK OK OK... I read enough in:re the star wars/spooky/white label/byzar stuff that I *MUST* respond. This should be the final word as I sent those 12"s out personally. It is a white label only, unsold, undistributed ,2 sided, 2 songed, no artwork, plain jacket by the group Byzar (not Byzar 5, though I think the label *did* say that for some reason). Byzar are an Asphodel group, with a debut LP on the way! Please check out our website for information on upcoming releases. (see below for that) This 12" is severely limited and THERE ARE NO MORE AVAILABLE. I have sent them out to various people worldwide. Because of the samples, this will never be officially released. Whatever Spooky played at Cloudwatch was *that* , whether he mixed other things is heresay...I was'nt there. More likely than not, it was this piece, alone as it has its own beats. And as far as the whole irony discussion, some people like it, some people don't. I try not to impose the whole "this is right" "this is cool" this is bad" this is poo poo" into the opinion pool. I respect the critical opinions of others as long as they are somewhat fair in perspective and as long as people are willing to check out both sides of any issue. Too often on this list (as with life), people speak out, don't back up their opinions and then drivel out STUPID POINTLESS PERSONAL diatribe against people whose opinions they won't realy check out in full view. Its amusing how often on this list, participants will assert their opinions as being absolute truth. Props to Chris Fahey for saying how much he hates the irony thing and props to whoever else loves the irony trip. Props to listers that welcome discourse and discussion. Its rare around here. IMHO. Its funny, after being in the net/web/online community for a few years now, I only recently found out what IMHO and IMO *mean*. I try to avoid it's usage as it seems kind of a crutch. Consider: assuming that you are humble (when stating IMHO), is'nt everything that you say and write in your opinion? So often, people write " Aphex Twin, FAX, Marylyn Manson ( or other topics that *occasionally* make it to IDM) ...IMHO made a great LP or video or interview." Isn't your opinion strong enough to stand on its own 2 feet without the tag? IMO, thats all. bpm0@interport.net Peter Becker, Promotions: Retail, DJ Pool Asphodel Records, NYC PO Box 51, Chelsea Station, NY NY 10113 Phone # (212) 965-0265 FAX # (212) 965-0959 http://www.asphodel.com

You're forgetting that large portions of etiquette and protocol ARE, in fact, fundamentally useless, but that they have survived because of the enduring fragility of human ego (v. especially true for the internet in general - and any community that relies more on the written word (always highly open to misinterpretation) than the spoken word/body language composite.) Combine that with the volatile nature of many of this list's spirits, and well, it's easy to understand why IMHOs and smileys exist. Human communication is full of useless devices whose only purpose is to reassure our interlocutors that yes, I do care about your opinion, and yes, in spite of my forceful stand I am willing to hear your side of the story. When you ask someone "how are you" can you honestly say that in every case you really ARE interested in how they are at that point in time? All IMVHO, of course :-) Ashok

Hence you've contradicted yourself before getting half way through that sentence! Reminds me of the computer in one of Heinlein's book who kept talking about human discourse having "null semantic content." --------------------------------------------------------------------- "Psyche manifests as psychic through something we call 'winding', because it twists, and puts things that were far apart next to each other, complicatedly, taffywise." -- winona on channel 78 Kent Williams kent@inav.net -- http://soli.inav.net/~kent

oh it was the 12" in question.. believe me.. spooky didn't mix other things :D, plus another dj in the other room played the same track only moments after spooky dropped it.

IMHO and IMO are the same thing really. at least i've always thought of them this way, and there doesn't seem to be a reason why anyone uses IMHO over IMO and vice versa. Now, do you know what ROTFL means? :) __ __\ \ / /_\ \ \_____/ , m7=

agreed. I have been unnecessarily hurt and have unnecessarily hurt others simply because they can't see my smile and sarcastic grin when I tell them they are full of crap. the net IS a dangerous place for communications, though a great one too.

actually, Ashok, I *can* say that. Otherwise, I don't speak. How are you? I mean it. I just see IMHOs and smileys as being abused in many, but not all cases, like "I think you suck! I think your taste is shit! I want to come over and burn your house down! The next time I see you I'm gonna kick your ass! How DARE you like Autechre's new LP! I think you should die of malaria!, IMHO, :-)" thats all... bpm0@interport.net Peter Becker, Promotions: Retail, DJ Pool Asphodel Records, NYC PO Box 51, Chelsea Station, NY NY 10113 Phone # (212) 965-0265 FAX # (212) 965-0959 http://www.asphodel.com
