Correct about De La Soul (yikes, is 89-90 old skool?) , but the original sample (3 that's the magic number) was lifted from one of those old Schoolhouse Rock tunes they used to play on Saturday morning TV (you know, like "verb, that's what's happenin'" and "lolly, lolly, lolly get your adverbs here") . Those that don't remember schoolhouse rock were probably born apres 1978. Halve Phun, James

This could be an old skool de la soul tune. I think its called "the magic number" but this one has some mc'ing in it. It would be off their "Three Feet High and Rising" album. -peter

It sounds like a De La Soul track from their first record. I forget the track title though. -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

De La Soul? strange name for that type of music ;) anyhow, thanks. I think that may be all the info I need. I can search out a discography somewhere and check it out. but if you know the name of the record at least it'll help. -- Hillie aka Aurafix / PHD ja DAMONES hillien kotisivu - http://www.clark.net/pub/buh/index.html easy internet services - http://huizen.dds.nl/~eis Do re mi fa so la ti.. There was a whole series of these little cartoon edutainment videos, one for every number 1-12, one for nouns, verbs ("verb, that's what's happenin'), adjectives, adverbs, interjections, conjunctions ('conjunction junction, what's your function"). They later branched out into areas of historic and governmental interest (remember "I'm just a bill, and I'm sittin' here on Capitol Hill,.....). There was a Schoolhouse rock "tribute" album recently released featuring your standard injection of "alterno radio" artists, each covering one of the schoolhouse rock tunes. I don't know the original artist(s), they were all probably written by some unknown songwriter. i know I can't be so old as to be the only person who remembers Schoolhouse Rock!? Halve Phun, James

There's been a bunch of crappy rock cover versions of all these songs in the last couple of years. I think the best review of them came from Bart Simpson, while he and Lisa were seeing the covers on emptyVee. Bart: "What the hell is this?" Lisa: "It's generation x making a pitiful attempt to relive their youth." Bart: "Methinks we need a Vietnam war to thin their ranks out." Phil Downey (gen-X'er who freely disses his youth.)

no, cuz the DeLaSoul track only talks about 3: "the DeLaSoul posse consists of three and that's the magic number." so any track talking about 4 is something else, possibly sampling from the same source I don't know what it is, but I do know what it ain't /:) john ________________________________________________________________________ The power of the dance is a dangerous power. They'll be a blech-report at http://www.clark.net/pub/buh/BlechNY/ very soon.. Will have pics that I took at the party, and I'm gonna try to get more pics.. and I put in quite some humor into the report ;) but here's a mini-review :D I only heard AFX, Autechre, Freeform and Mark Broom.. the rest of time I didn't really know who it was playing. It was a bit of a dissapointment, as there was no warp merchandise and you couldn't meet afx, at least I didn't get to I suppose you could at one point, but I never knew about it. anyhow, all of the music was really great, but I can tell you a few things about the dj's/live performers: autechre - should have done some more 'autechre' stuff and not typical acid/house type stuff. it was not too typical, but it certainly wasn't the stuff we're all used to from Autechre. mark broom - really great. I thought this was AFX at first, since he was supposed to play at 3:30am, but they put him on coz Richard got boo'ed off, since he came on right after Autechre, I guess the ppl just weren't ready for too much of that kind of music. so AFX was pushed back to 5:30am. was pretty much house or trance, can't remmeber exactly. afx - totally AWESOME =) he played mostly drum'n'bass and noisy loud stuff, lots of high-pitched noise and distortion.. totally wicked.. one girl held her ears shut =) he kind of ping ponged tracks.. drum'n'bass, noisy, d&b, noisy, etc.. the next morning I bought Arcon 2: The Beckoning/Slyland which was played by Richard. I heard that Jimi Tenor brought the house down, but unfortunately I never heard him play :( vampiros lesbos brought his gf there who stripped for all the party-goers, but I don't remember the music that much. just got a glimpse of the stripper who later I learned was the dj's (franco's) gf.. laters.. -- Hillie aka Aurafix / PHD ja DAMONES hillien kotisivu - http://www.clark.net/pub/buh/index.html easy internet services - http://huizen.dds.nl/~eis Do re mi fa so la ti..
