last night i spun at a friend's party, my typical set of dub, downtempo electronica, and jungle. as the night progressed, i realized that there is a void in my record collection that i need to fill--namely, tracks that will get people moving. don't get me wrong, i'm not looking to stock up on spice girls 12"s, i just need some music that pleasures the body as well as the mind. what i have in mind are things in the 100-145 bpm range, interesting enough to listen to w/o dancing and funky enough for the floor.i know little to nothing about artists in this area, and would appreciate any pointers or good starting points. thanks--->r|b|s

Ha! I was wondering how I would be able to work some of my recent purchases onto idm, and this seems to be my opening. This week I got: Source Lab 2: French house, dub and jungle. Muzik magazine gave it 4th place for compilation of the year, and I think it is mega-groovy, and not cheesy at all. Global Communications: The Way/The Deep. The mags are all calling these tracks garage, but don't let that fool you, quality groovy house. New Phunk Theory: Phunk Theory Theme/Dancer (Paper Recordings) My favourite purchase of the week, (even over Boards of Canada), sexy, funky, groovy house. The Phunk Theory Theme has a killer guitar improv over some chunky chi-house beats, and an electric bass line to die for. Cine City: Are you sure Joe?/Plants, Animal, H2O (Paper Recordings) A 10" which is one side breaks, other side moderately tough house. The track names come from some great 1950's trashy sci-fi flicks samples about aliens and UFO's. Cool record, but if you have the choice go for New Phunk Theory. Well, if you have a bunch of cool, open minded people, I'd say a lot of the rephlex/warp stuff...If not, I got one word: ELECTRO! I never leave home without a handful of my fav electro records, just in case. If your dealing with a bunch of really closedminded and unimaginative (read lame...) people, that one word would be HOUSE, but not around my place of residence! peace out, brock np: D'Arcangelo ep

Pfah! There is good house music out there if you want to look for it. It's never going to fry your brain with sonic innovation, but then it's not there for that. Check out Global Communication's recent releases, bits of Herbert's, and I suppose you could call some of Underground Resistance's jazzier tracks house too. And everyone should give the original Chicago house at least one listen. What's this I've got playing now?? On Now? Alone - Don Carlos

aaaaaghhh ! Well maybe you don't think Trakhead Steve (that's a kick drum ?) or DJ Rush (at 150 bpm with a doubled kick) is house music... Cajmere defines himself as electronic funk, but you know this is house music. plenty of new sounds, new states of mind. Boo Williams has got some tweaked out freaked out tracks. Many of these Chicago guys out freaked acid by a long shot in the last three years. Not much on the freaky end as of late, a lot of them settled into deeper house, but still...Casual is not nearly as hype as they used to be. still, Dj Sneak gets pretty damn innovative, very hard and still has enough of a groove to impregnate your donkey. 10-4 over and out good buddy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chris Sattinger reprogramming our reality through disco new records coming on : Synewave(jan), Subvoice(feb), Sativae(?) What, 90's material or his Trax days? I'm not familiar with his new stuff so much (I haven't liked what I've heard), but old stuff like Box Energy and Hot Hands isn't something I would think of describing as house. Did DJ Pierre invent idm? Playing Now - Star Wars Monopoly.
