You can't go wrong with LTJ Bukem's "Logical Progression". I like the overall mood and consistency of it better than "Earth". Plus it's beat-mixed! Peace. James

The _Tech' steppin_ comp is required. I haven't found any other jungle comp that is spectacular. There's a couple other Bukem releases out. Metalheadz _Platinum Breakz_ albumn isn't spectacular but does feature some quality tunes from the big names in Jungle. Dude, skip right over that Bukem diva-laden raver stuff. It's just 80's house with faster & denser beats. Check out Squarepusher ("feed me weird things") or Plug ("drum-n-bass for papa") to hear what happens when the good aspects of jungle are used by innovative artists.

Well... I like Squarepusher as much as the next Gonzi, well maybe not *that* much, but at times it's also nice to listen to the more smooth, rolling style of jungle, with jazzy touches and melodies. Which Plug is not. Just a personal taste thing. And in that vein, I've found these pretty nice: Moving Shadow comp "Storm from the East" E-Z Rollers album on Moving Shadow (has Photek remix) Endemic Void: Equations LP (a bit more varied) And the first TPower album is worth a listen. Also, three cheers for the Voafose/Boymerang remix of Wagon Christ from the "Redone" EP, a nice example of smooth yet intricate jungle track. I'd forgotten about this until last night. What's the Kemet Krew album like? It's in very good company with the above. I'm pretty disappointed with the Avantgardism comp on Blue Angel. There's nothing avant garde about most of it and the really good stuff would have easily fit on one disk.

You might try 'Breakbeat Science', a double CD just released by the same good people who do all the 'Trance Europe Express' compilations. It's a mixed bag, it has good examples of a lot of different styles, and might get you some idea if what type of jungle you like. And it comes with a nice booklet that gives you some background on all the artists. If you liked 'Earth', you might try Bukem's previous label compilation 'Logical Progression'. It lacks the hip hop-type tracks that are on Earth (the first Poets Of Thought track), but the jungle tracks are in a similar style. You could also try the 'Avantgardism - drum 'n bass' compilation, released by Blue Angel / Rising High / Law & Auder. More experimental than the two above, definitely a few shades weirder, but also pretty varied.

shit... We most definitely are! (I am, at least) Photek's great (as are his buddies, Source Direct), though usually a lot darker than anything Bukem ever did. But you might try his 'Hidden camera' EP, out on Virgin (and the only CD he has released so far), which is quite laidback and jazzy. Great stuff. Moving Shadow release a lot of different styles of jungle. Everything from blissed-out synth tracks to raw, dark stuff. Their 'Storm From The East' compilation is a good place to start.

Mmmm.... I wonder what the last Metalheadz release was you heard? I wouldn't exactly label Peshay's 'Predator', Adam F's 'Metropolis', Ed Rush's 'Skylab' or Rufige Kru's 'T3' as muzak.

Sure, but be prepared for some pretty weird stuff. Not very much like what's on 'Earth'. Maarten on now: Decoder - In my dreams

Come now, there is *plenty* of good music happening in the dancefloor drum-n-bass arena. Roni Size, Bukem, Photek, T Power, Moving Shadow artists like EZ Rollers and Dom and Roland, all are big names, all have made excellent music as far as I am concerned. Squarepusher and Plug are essential listening, but I love the easier going, 'simpler' stuff too, music that isn't ashamed of its roots. Jungle doesn't all have to be an 'intellectual come exercise', as Graham Sutton put it. On Now? The Way - Global Communication
