There seem to be two possibilities here: 1. You really do go through dozens of CDs a week personally and are so out-of-touch that you think $14 or more is a good price for a used domestic CD. 2. You scour used disks shops looking for disks you know are in demand You then sell them on private mailing lists to people who aren't lucky enough to live close to a good shop and don't realize that they can get all of this stuff for the same price, or maybe even less, new. If this is the case you are conducting a business on a private forum and you should take it elsewhere. A warning to anyone tempted to put $$ in the pocket of this gouger: all of this stuff can be had *NEW* for a dollar or two more or sometimes even a dollar or two less from any of a number of mail-order companies that aren't out to skin you because you live in the midwest. Just a few examples: http://www.cdworld.com http://www.cdnow.com Are both good sources for domestic disks of almost any stripe. http://www.modernmusic.com http://www.dropbeat.com both have a great selection of all kinds of imports. And Ear-Rational at http://www.xmission.com/~ear can get you almost anything although it might take a while. I'm not endorsing these companies over any others; I'm just pointing out that there are all kinds of options for people that have a hard time finding this stuff closer to home. Miles

I'm sure Thad is big enough to defend himself, but from my experience, he's a giant music lover who occasionally bites off more than he can chew. Certainly not a businessman or a 'gouger.' How he prices his goods should be of no real concern to you, unless you see something you really like + desire it. I've purchased several items from Thad in the past. Last March, for example, he unloaded, among other things, STC's Emit Ecaps for $14. I'm sure I could have found it new for the same price with little effort. Thad's post made me 'remember' that it was something I wanted to buy + I didn't mind paying $14 to have it delivered to my PO BOX. It's odd; six hours ago, I read a post detailing how IDM was advertised as a forum for 'intelligent discussion.' Now, I just finished reading an unnecessary flame of a fellow list member. Thad's a nice guy [to whom I also owe some tapes to :)], and saying nasty things about him without actually doing business with him previously is silly. Something IS happening, isn't there, Margret? .grant.h.horne .http://delta.is.tcu.edu/~ghhorne/

Occassionally bites off more than he can chew? He posts sale lists of dozens and dozens of disks at least bi-weekly. He'd be lucky if he could find the time to listen to them each once. To claim that he's just purging his least favorite CDs is ridiculous.

It's odd that you're disappointed in the intelligence of this forum when *YOU* seem to have failed completely to understand my objections and to address them at all in your reply. I've watched his "personal" sale lists flow by, page after page, week after week. All I've done is questioned that he's really just selling his own unwanted disks and to point out that this music is available from many sources at the same prices, *NEW*. He's told me personally that many of his customers are people in the midwest who don't have access to this music locally and aren't aware of Mod Lang, Dropbeat, Modern Music etc. Do you think he ever pointed this out or just continued charging them 20-30% more than everyone else because they didn't know any better? I suggest that everyone with a list of things to sell put it up on their web page and just post the URL, especially if they're dealing in this kind of volume. Miles
