Not unexpectedly, "Boy/Girl" was chosen as 12" of the week on Sweden's national dance music radio programme. The host also said that a limited, numbered edition of 100 locks of Richard's hair have been given out by Warp. It didn't sound like a joke. This is what annoys me with Aphex Twin the most: He says that he is only doing the music for himself (and so on) but still he is like any other pop star in his image. Of course he is aware that the above example is a very pop star-ish thing but that's no excuse, really. Why do all people become like this when they get famous? (Or is it the other way around -- the become famous because they do these things?) Why are you afraid of Aphex as Pop Star?

If you had a bone to pick with Aphex, I think you're chomping fresh air with this one. g.

This is so true, I really think that if RDJ didn't make the (fabulous) music he's doing, I would probably hate him as much as the oasisbrothers (or alike). I read some interview whith him where he said that "well... was to make a remix of this group and I really didn't care about it and when they asked me for the tape I just gave them some unrealeased track I had in my shelf..."In all of the interviews that I've read with him he's shown the same popstar-arrogant behaviour. It's this arrogant approach that I really hate with this guy. and the worst thing however; He can do whatever shit he wants and people would still buy it. But thass nothing new I guess. Well... Just some opinions on the contrary of all the lovebombing taking place on this list. Franz.

Indeed not. Been going on since Ancient Greece at least, except then they used quill and ink rather than synth and tape. . . Shit is relative, not absolute. Discuss. But not TOO earnestly alan/beyondthebristolsound

If this is true, I think it's fucking hillarious. What's so pop starish about it? I can't remember anyone else giving away parts of their body with their records. The more free little goodies that come with the records the better (see: Joy Rex 9, I Care, SAW2)... And:

I still see locks of hair from George, Paul, Ringo and John at record shows. The same goes for Elvis the pelvis. They used to sell them in stores, all packaged up nicely and everything. Now *this* is pop. Hey, maybe this means we can clone RDJ some day for our own personal use. Y'know, like keep him in the basement and have him play live right in your living room whenever the guests are over. Who needs AB3 when you can have the real thing, right? Gives a whole new meaning to `The Aphex Twin'. enolc. .`-). @@ -' christopher miller o.' evil@digital.net ' on: "Matter" by LASSIGUE BENDTHAUS

this actually paralells what goes on in the noise/dark ambient scene, in a way - every package is almost a kind of fetish object. (i've got a small cruel party tape that was packaged with what appear to be pubic hairs) i think it's cool. i just hope this doesn't mean RDJ's shaved his head, heh. And so did g:
quoted 1 line Why are you afraid of Aphex as Pop Star?>Why are you afraid of Aphex as Pop Star?
Because I don't want anything but the music. The personality doesn't matter, therefore I think the whole pop star thing is wrong, with its emphasize on how the artists look, how cool they are etc. This is what the electronic music scene lacks and that's what's so good about it. I'm sure many people would agree with me. In RDJ's case, it's more that he always stresses how little he cares about anything but the music. I think he is lying. I think he is trying to adopt an image of a person who does all these weird things like buying tanks or in this example giving out locks of his hair. That doesn't mean I HATE him, it's just a bit irritating.
