Herbert "100 Lbs" phonoCD1 I'm suprised no one else has jumped up for this one yet. Super super cool, smooth 4AM house grooves, check the 'Girl From Ipanema' sample. And since this is matthew herbert, the man from Wish Mountain, the house music here is made with common household appliances. This is nothing earth shattering -- he samples sounds like clanking jars together and scraping a spoon across the bottom of a frypan, and uses them as percussion samples. But it does give some freshness to a genre totally dominated by the 909. It's been a long time since I've heard a record that was so musical, dance floor friendly and cunningly constructed. This one deserves to be hyped to the skies. --------------------------------------------------------------------- "I read Keyboard, but it's like staring at a book with pictures of simple looking but expensive machines." -- Michael Lazarev NEW CD Comp Electronic Music Project http://soli.inav.net/~kent/emp.html Kent Williams kent@inav.net CADSI 2651 Crosspark Road Coralville IA 52241 (319) 338 6053 (home) (319) 626 6700 x 219 (work) (319) 626 3489 (fax)

I have to second this recommendation! Finally, some catchy and creative house music! The vinyl edition of "100 Lbs" is simply called Parts One Two And Three, and Part Four is out now, as well! Does anyone know how many more parts HERBERT will grace us with? Also, in response to the person who posted about PHLEGM, I heard this recently as well, and was rather impressed. Very moody - with a lush synth sound. But, why did they choose such a pitsy name for themselves? Anyone heard the RO 70 2LP on Source? Anyone know who this is? It has a real ugly front cover, but it sounds really nice! Like a cross between Gescom and Microstoria. Bubbling, moody ambience with occasional slick-sounding, sequenced grooves. TA! I belive it's Roman Flugel, of Acid Jesus/Sensorama/Alter Ego fame. - Matthew

I thought it was connected with Alter Ego but I could well be wrong. The cover design is made up of shots of what appears to be a NSU Ro80 car (I don't think there ever was a Ro70, anyone?). That was the first thing I thought of when I first came across a mention of this album so I was quite pleasantly surprised when the connection materialised! I just bought the "Ro 70 meets Move D" 12" on Source Records. Move D is David Moufang of Source Records, I suppose. Very good spacy electro ambient house. Karl-Michael.
