sorry for the crosspost (yeah, as if...), but: does anybody have an explanation for the apparent discrepency in remix credits between the city slang and thrill jockey issues of the third tortoise remix 12-inch, featuring spring heel jack and jim o'rourke? if memory serves, the city slang version listed the o'rourke remix as a "jim o'rourke vs. bedouin ascent" remix, whereas the thrill jockey version just credits o'rourke for that track...stylistically, the track sounds like it could have some definite bedouin ascent involvement, but you never can tell...best of the three so far, btw... also, lemme give props to the new bundy brown/doug scharin/james warden side-project, _directions in music_, just released on thrill jockey. i like this better than the second tortoise record! sc

Could somebody tell me a little more about this label, Thrill Jockey? I get the idea they're an american company reissuing a lot of european electronica. Got a phone number? Thrill Jockey is based in Chicago and has a fine roster of American Artists , mostly on the out - rock tip , most well known have to be Tortoise, Trans - Am and Rome. , pretty cool packaging wih all their releases as well , I have a complete label list and contact info with the new Rome Lp , but can't find it just now. Recommend the Rome remix 12" of 'Soul Snatchers" to any one on this list , plus their debut LP. sm@ 4th world records uk http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/4thworld/

thrill jockey is a chicago-based indie label associated with "post-rock" artists such as tortoise, rome, the sea and cake, trans am, etc. their connection with "electronica" comes through their connection, obviously, with tortoise, whose presence on such uk comps as _macro-dub infection_, _in memoriam: gilles deleuze_ , and _headz 2_ has introduced the group to the work of a number of experimental electronic artists (oval, scanner, microstoria, spring heel jack). (additionally, jim o'rourke, who remixed a track on oval's _94 diskont_ is also part of the extended chicago indie milieu and has worked previously with members of tortoise, sea and cake, shrimp boat, etc.; it's likely o'rourke was instrumental in bringing these two camps together.) that introduction has grown to encompass a number of artists (including members of the mo'wax and mille plateaux stables) in an extended remix project of which the spring heel jack/jim o'rourke twelve-inch is the most recent. so far, thrill jockey's (comparatively marginal) reissue activities have been confined to mille plateaux-related artists (specifically, oval and microstoria), with the tortoise remix project twelve-inches slated as a city slang/thrill jockey co-release. the label's mailing address is po box 476794 chicago, il, usa 60647. they are notoriously selective about servicing. hope that helps, sc
