There so much pent up rage on this list! Let it all out, boys.

I'd much rather find out who a release is by and have a listen for myself than listen to some blathering punter salivating on and on over every pop and crackle a record has to offer. If you want poetry, I'm sure there's another list for that... /""'' /"'RESH Live and Direct from the G-Spot Orange County, California, USA

Hmm. Instead of flaming everyone else for not posting enough material that you're interested in reading, how about considering the possibility that nobody here is being paid to keep you entertained? -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo@swcp.com; http://www.swcp.com/lazlo)

I have been reading IDM, Ambient, 313 lists for some time now and get so bored of reading dozens and dozens of posts by frothy mouthed people who obviously have so much time on their hands that they can sit at their computer so often during the day to make posts about the most insignificant of details, and who obviously have so few other interests or distractions that they can actually go on at length about who Woodenspoon is or "maybe do you think that it might be some new side project" for fucking RDJ (he's a whole different topic, while he may be creative and innovative, he is one of the biggest drips I have ever met. I find it difficult to really care when he doesn't). While I sincerely appreciate and support enthusiasm and interest in new forms of electronic music, I get sickened by the obsession with irrelevant details surrounding the music. It's no different than people who worship Elvis or religious fanatics, all of them are missing the point. I would like to see what others have to say about this. I am seriously considering unsubscribing from these lists as I don't feel I belong due to my interest in "music" and not it's conveyance. Disease??? I'd like to point out that the reason I'm subscribed to this list (and others like it) is specifically for the `For Sale' posts and the bits of trivia that float around. It's just something that I enjoy, and I find it offensive that I should have to defend myself. You have no right telling me that what I do is a waste of time.

Who died and made you editor? Just remember that on this list we are *talking* about music. Isn't that an oxymoron in itself? If that's what you dig, then go and subscribe to some crappy magazine. Myself, I feel that the IDM-list is by far better than any rag out there. esaesid. .`-). qp -' christopher miller ==' evil@digital.net ' on: "Highly Active Texture" by HAT

Think it's to easy to compare the lists with each other. Personal I think 313 is a very healthy list, mostly positive, mostly about music. I was subscribed to ambient some years ago, don't know how it is nowadays.

The latter half year I think the idm-list has gone down in quality, and with quality I mean the relevance of the information and discussions.. From the tons of mails, just 5% is relevant, 60% redundant and the rest irrelevant. IMHO there's too much talk is about Rephlex and Warp and Mike Paradinas and Aphex Twin and all their monickers and otherwise too much 'me too' mails. Nothing about these artists and labels, (as you read my reviews you know) I appreciate them as well as most people do here. But I agree the focus goes out too much on this, and there are far to less critical ears outthere. Maybe we could get some talk about if mr Paradinas maybe is only going downwards after his first material, maybe people have opinions about the importance of Warp going downwards in the electronic music era, or just the evolution of electronic music, why do 'all those' techno artists suddenly wanna make d'n'b? Just some examples which I personally should appreciate above 'my cover is yellow', 'oh, mine is green.' and those ten follow-ups. And this has nothing to do with dishing people off, I'm enough of a collector myself.. Personally I think it's a great idea to start some sort of trainspotting list or maybe a Rephlex list, this list grown out of porportions and it's time for some split ups. But I don't what the opinions (and capacities) are at hyperreal (Alan)? well, keep :) another trainspotter from the netherworld..

I have to agree. I left the ambient list for the very same reason. Discussing music is part of the list, I think. But the hot-head adolescent attitudes that thrive on this list are frustrating and offensive. In real life I would never put up with being in the same room with people like that. I've known many people who are capable of discussing music, their loves and hates, calmly and intelligently, with humour and friendliness. This "you suck" attitude seems to be an internet phenomenon, it seems people think they don't have to be nice because it's so anonymous. From: Christopher Miller <evil@digital.net>

I think "For Sale" belongs on Usenet. If I'm interested I'll go look but I don't enjoy having my email box filled with it.

I realise I am probably older than many people on this list and I am often grateful to be over all "that." So, I'll just hobble over to my rocking chair and put on the new Jake Slazenger...
