I have to agree. I left the ambient list for the very same reason.
Discussing music is part of the list, I think. But the hot-head
adolescent attitudes that thrive on this list are frustrating and
offensive. In real life I would never put up with being in the same
room with people like that.
I've known many people who are capable of discussing music, their
loves and hates, calmly and intelligently, with humour and
friendliness. This "you suck" attitude seems to be an internet
phenomenon, it seems people think they don't have to be nice because
it's so anonymous.
