V/A "Special Brew" (FFRR) 1. U2 "Numb" (Gimme Some More Dignity Mix) 2. Bomb The Bass "One to One Religion" (DJ Pogo Remix) 3. Attica Blues "Blue Print" 4. Method Man "Release Yo' Self" (Prodigy Mix) 5. Prodigy "Voodoo People" (Dust Brothers Mix) 6. Red Snapper "Hot Flush" (Sabres of Paradise Mix) 7. Kaliphz "Knockout Position" 8. DJ Crystl "Perpetual Motion" (Emotionless Science) 9. Goldie "State of Rage" (VIP Mix) 10. Paul Weller "Wild Wood" (Paul Weller vs. Portishead Mix) 11. Money Mark "Cry" 12. Howie B "Away Again" Just released is compilation called 'Special Brew,' a new collection indicating that the majors have finally locked their sights on the booming trip hop music scene. Though the tracks themselves lack slightly in spark, the names will surely ring bells with the likes of Goldie, The Prodigy (dust brothers remix) and U2 headlining the release. Surprisingly, there is some life in here, with The Sabres of Paradise giving the remix treatment to Red Snapper's "Hot Flush," and a nifty Paul Weller collaboration with Portishead. Most of the stars on this album consists of self-indulgent hip-hop wank from the likes of Kaliphz and DJ Crystl. And judging by the absence of publicity for this release, odds say that FFRR is simply testing the waters. But if you insist on Special Brew, skip the headliners and go straight for the filler. And hope that someone gets it straight for a second round. Geez, never thought I'd see the day when Paul Weller would get mentioned on IDM. *Goes into closet, blows layers of dust off of original edition Jam shoes* This is the new Art School, - Greg

Well, I do have to admit that the Portishead treatment does work well with the track...but it IS stretching the boundries of this conference. Wasn't this track also on one of the 110 Below comps, or was it "This ain't Trip Hop" on Moonshine? (and as such may have been mentioned here before) Ah I know yes there's "Kozmik dub SX 2000" or something on one of the 110 belows which means Wild Wood is either on T.A.T.H. or somewhere else altogether. blah blah blah.
