Howie B "Away Again" Just released is compilation called 'Special Brew,' a new collection indicating that the majors have finally locked their sights on the booming trip hop music scene. Though the tracks themselves lack slightly in spark, the names will surely ring bells with the likes of Goldie, The Prodigy (dust brothers remix) and U2 headlining the release. Surprisingly, there is some life in here, with The Sabres of Paradise giving the remix treatment to Red Snapper's "Hot Flush," and a nifty Paul Weller collaboration with Portishead. Most of the stars on this album consists of self-indulgent hip-hop wank from the likes of Kaliphz and DJ Crystl. And judging by the absence of publicity for this release, odds say that FFRR is simply testing the waters. But if you insist on Special Brew, skip the headliners and go straight for the filler. And hope that someone gets it straight for a second round.
