Got this off another mailing list and thought it might be pertinent to the discussion (altho very little idm content - sorry). cya brian ---------------------------------------------------------------- Heard today that MTV are going to be lauching a new channel on August 1st here in the US of A. It'll be called "M2" and will be aimed at a target audience "23 years of age". presumably this means that they're not going to be filling it with The Real (sic) World and game shows... According to a New York Times article, Tom Freston, the chairman said "This is a channel like MTV was in 1981. The audience we're going for with M2 doesn't watch a lot of MTV. They find it a bit too mainstream." M2 will also have a 24-hour computer link called Intercast that will allow it to be seen on home computers (a sort of reverse Yack), along with background information on artists, etc.

This sounds actually half-interesting, if they go about it properly. Don't count on there being much idm content though, since even among 23 year olds the audience for this genre is pitifully small in North America. My guess is it'll be just another flashy, trashy piece of eye candy completely devoid of content and true creativity. But hey, what the hell.. Cid

Well, let's be optimistic that in fact it will contain at least some idm content!

We can only hope. 3
