Heard today that MTV are going to be lauching a new channel on August 1st
here in the US of A. It'll be called "M2" and will be aimed at a target
audience "23 years of age". presumably this means that they're not going
to be filling it with The Real (sic) World and game shows...
According to a New York Times article, Tom Freston, the chairman said
"This is a channel like MTV was in 1981. The audience we're going for
with M2 doesn't watch a lot of MTV. They find it a bit too mainstream."
M2 will also have a 24-hour computer link called Intercast that will
allow it to be seen on home computers (a sort of reverse Yack), along
with background information on artists, etc.
