alright, first off, the list of cds I was selling was for a friend,2ndly, if you took a look at James' sale list (Steady J guy), I think he would have "mainstream" stuff, some "worse" than I was selling, that you incorrectly assumed was mine and I'm sure he knows a great deal more about techno than you ever will, and can probably dj better than you. But you're right, "moses", its a good thing to judge people based on , well, nothing, and to make sweeping generalizations...(like I just did) you know nothing about me. I could possibly know more than you about your precious techno "underground". I have a turntable.

agreed. but there comes a time when an artist becomes popular, and it seems only fair to meet the demand(look in your "economincs" books). there will still be plenty of "underground" stuff for trainspotters to look for.

yet its ironic that you remember it was MY "maintream" for sale list that was posted almost 2 weeks ago, probably because I signed and-e. On the other hand, I have no idea which Derek you are, nor, from your apparent intelligence and worldview, do I care.

oh, thanks. I have a mix Teep made, it has some "mainstream" stuff on it, I wonder what Derek would think of this, maybe Derek is more underground than Teep eh?

what made me say this: if Rephlex is planning on releasing this again later, fine, but if they are releasing only 1500 copies, prove to me that it has only to do with economics.

well, I think people who think they are better than others becuase they are more "underground" are dumb. I especially respect anyone interested in idm, regardless of how knowlegeable they are, and would be glad to impart any info I could, rather than looking down upon them.

I don't care who Derek is, or how "undergound" he is, he was disrespectful, and doesn't appear to be a very nice human. Granted, I was angry, but I wasn't talking shit, I don't care what status Derek has in the world you inhabit, I simply put out a message as a joke, and he was mean.

can you clarify what you mean by this? He normaly isn't judgemental? Fine. Then I guess you are replying that he was so disrespectful becuase he "has ties with Rephlex" and couldn't take my joke?

ok, so enlighten me. Furthermore, what happens when an artist becomes "mainstream" like RDJ? The record label should still release small quantities of thier stuff to satisfy only trainspotters? I don't think that's right, maybe you do. I would rather good music reaches everyone who wants it. There are still plenty of "non-mainstream" artists on small labels that you can hunt down, and older RDJ stuff.

If you don't like the way Rephlex runs there opperations, I suggest you stop your bickering and lay off. It is people like you who make Grant and Rich want to make a Ltd. release. Why don't you be thankful with what you have that Rephlex has released.

ok, since you were a bit nicer this time, and I see no reason to drag this out... I'll make a more respectful attempt at replying to you. I wouldn't post this if a bunch of people hadn't already written to me privately, agreeing with some of my assertions... On Mon, 1 Jul 1996, Dr. Giggles wrote:

yes. so? I still don't understand, please eloborate. You are appearing to be a very rigid person. Are categories and "status" very important to you?

yeah yeah, but your point was inane(more so than mine), my opinion is invalid because of a for sale list? Furthermore, who wouldn't want to get rid of some of that stuff, surely you must get rid of cds once in awhile, and I doubt all of them are on tiny labels.

well, that is partly becuase I get stuff after most people on this list, and secondly, because people like you are waiting to be condescending to feed their ego. ok , maybe this wasn't necessary, but this is how it appeared and why I was so angry.
quoted 12 lines Part of the fun of trainspotting is that this music is not always the> > > >> Part of the fun of trainspotting is that this music is not always the > >> easiest to get, and therefore when you do find of real gem, it makes it all > >> worth it. > > > >agreed. but there comes a time when an artist becomes popular, and it > >seems only fair to meet the demand(look in your "economincs" books). > >there will still be plenty of "underground" stuff for trainspotters to > >look for. > > Maybe you should be CEO of Rephlex. ok. fine. you are right. but my point here was that it really didn't have much to do with economics as you claimed.

yeah, well, I try.
quoted 2 lines I think commercialization of an art form (music) does more harm than good.> I think commercialization of an art form (music) does more harm than good. > You seem to come from a different angle.
well, printing more than 1500 copies is hardly on the verge of commercial.. but I agree with you in some instances, but commercialization isn't always bad for an art form... maybe someone "mainstream" like me would get/see a commercial art form and be inspired, and come up with some idea that you like...just a thought. But I don't think it is too easy quantify commercialization as "good" or "bad" for an art form.

I will end my side of this with this publically cause it is kind of like a shitty soap opera that someone might be interested in: I responded to your original message because I thought you were belittling one of my favorite labels (my only connection to Rephlex by the way). I look back and can see that you were joking but the fact that you emphasized that the were only doing it to be "cool" got on my nerves. sorry for all the bullshit, and apologies to the list derek At 01:25 AM 7/2/96 -0400, and-e wrote:

last response. anyway, you are right, the "cool" shit was unnecessary. I'm from NYC, and I'm fed up with people concerned about image and this "underground" bullshit, so this is why your message in particular really pisssed me off. If you look at it again, you really seemed to be quite condescending, and I don't think it is necessary to speak to anyone that way. I didn't mean to belittle Rephlex, I don't think I would be as happy today if it weren't for what they started and continue to do. I can see why my message might cause you to think I was starting that whole/tired anti-Grant whiney thread, and why you would reply in the manner you did. I was genuinely interested in why a label would only release such a small number of copies if there is a large demand. I like Rephlex, I didn't mean to be an jerk, and you probably do know more about all this shit than I do, but there was no reason to be so hostile. Anyway, the only reason I am where I am right now is because the nice people of hyperreal helped me out when I first joined, and I would gladly give info to anyone who "knows" less than me, or feels too intimidtaed to post an "obvious" question in fear of being attacked, and would respond in a germane manner(like you did to me this time derek, thank you). anyway, again, sorry everyone, especially Derek and jabberwalque(sorry if I missp that) for all the immaturity on my part, and for cluttering this list. take care andy Mon, 1 Jul 1996, Dr. Giggles wrote:

The way that I have always understood limited pressings is so that a song doesnt get Juice Tigered, eg - played to death... A good example is, say, the chemical brothers (if u like um) you like hearing one of their songs out mabe the first 50 times you hear it then it gets really OLD! A better example is IM Ready by Size 9 (josh wink) 2 weeks after it was released i went to a party where I heard the song 10 times in one night (Im not overeggagerating) I digress, im just rambling DJ Ebben Flow Richmond VA
