It was a great show. Here's another another brief take: Made it in time for Meat Beat. Great! Enjoyed every minute. It was Jack and three others: A guitarist (hard to tell what he did, but he probably just made strange guitar noises), a drummer (he was excellent, and added a lot to what was going on, especially the couple solos), and a keyboardist (with a theramin!). Great set, new stuff and old favorites. Next was Underworld. Never heard them before. Sorry, but I didn't really enjoy it much. It sounded like they had one 909 with three slightly different drum patterns, and they played it through their whole show. I was really looking forward to Tomato's video work which I had heard of, but hadn't seen before. I wasn't disappointed. Beautiful massive type layering. Of course the Organic rave-video person kept throwing in their own multi colored rave stars and ruined it. Oh well... Chemical Brothers. Heard a track or two before, but never got into them, myself. But, live there were really energetic and fun. Nice to hear good breaks without that boring, tired 909 thud in everything. They definatly made the crowd (and me) move. Liked all the visuals, too. Lots of periodic table stuff and chemical related imagery (of course). I enjoyed it quite a bit. Orbital. Excellent!!! of course. Started off with my favorite track from the new album, Out There Somewhere? Played quite a bit of older material, actually, and stuff from the new one. Don't remember anything from Snivilization, unfortuneatly. Loved the version of Satan they played, sounded even thick/heavier, but mabye just because it was live. This was supposed to be broadcast live on KROQ/106.7. Did any poor unfortunate IDMer who couldn't go to the event tape this? I would enjoy a copy. Any bootleg entrepreneurs? Lastly, the Orb. I think I might have enjoyed their set the best. I'd never seen them live before, but I've always liked them. What was best was that everything was different then their album work. Lots of new sounds/beats mixed in. I wish this was broadcast live, because I'd love a copy of what they did more than anything else! Started off real mellow and ambient, then worked up to some great beats! Ended with Little Fluffy Clouds when the sun was coming up. Great experience. Great night. Nice long sets. Don't feel so jealous anymore of you UK folk who always seem to get the super-great lineup shows. What!!?#$# Totally opposite reaction here. I thought they were pretty cool from their new album, but after seeing them live, it was all over. These guys are fucking brilliant. One of the best at Organic, except the Brothers of course.

This set was absolutely amazing!! The Chemical Brothers have nothing but the dopest sounds around. More, More, More!!!!!!!! The live Beatles thing was pretty cool too. Love is all we need. This was

Ha Ha. I was there AND have a copy of the live broadcast. The tape has around 60% Chemicals set, 100% of Orbital's set, and around 4 Meat Beat tracks. Also, unfortunately included is the entire set of Jason Bentley DJ'ing. Fresh, if you read this, This guy really sucks. Props for playing Leftfield, but everything else in his set, and for that matter everyone else's, was utterly predictable. I can't believe that This guy is one of L.A's top dj's.

Jason Bentley is *not* one of L.A.'s top DJ's. He may have some respect for exposing the scene to new people, since he's holding down radio gigs on both the #1 college station (KCRW) and the #1 "alternative" station (KROQ), but no one in L.A. respects him for his skillz.

Yeah, but it was so *cold* by then. We tried to sit down and create a de facto chillout area, but nobody around us would cooperate. So we stood for two more hours, waiting for Fluffy White Clouds. I kind of got that feeling since he was on my tape with the "Jed the Fish" dude. Btw, that JEd the fish dude really sucks! He kept interrupting the live broadcasts and kept being really annoying. Oh well, at least i still have the show on tape.

Damn right it was cold! It never(and i mean never) gets that cold in Tucson, even in the dead of our so cald winter. But I still stuck it out for Lx and Hughes!! "Fluffy White Clouds," mate?!! If I hear one more wimp whinge and moan about how "cold" it was at Organic, I'll scream. I was in shirt sleeves the entire time, right until we left at 5:30 or so. Never even put on my pullover. The air was incredibly calm and still the entire time (not even a breath of wind) and standing in the middle of a crowd of several thousand people giving off heat made it plenty warm. The Minnesotans and Finns and Norwegians on this list must be laughing their heads off. (Then again, maybe all the whingers were all under the influence of small letters of the end of the alphabet.) (Desert Move in Vegas was a different story. Air temp was 38F at 5:00 AM and the wind was going strong. *That* was nippy.) - Greg Still too lazy to bother with a full Organic review (& still wondering why nobody's mentioned how Jack Dangers went the "organic" band route when they coulda played disc 2 of "Subliminal Sandwich" and blown everybody's socks off ... )

Gregg, you left so early!! You should have toughed it out until 7!! That's the only reason I mentioned the weather, if you were fromTucson, you'd understand. Calling someone a wimp who drove 500 miles each way, that morning, to see this event; and then stayed until the sun was peaking(no matter how cold it got!) is rather harsh in my opinion. and what is this "whinge" stuff? you mean whine I think. If I go to an all-night event } in shorts and a t-shirt and never need to put on a sweater or a pullover } (much less long pants), I hardly think that qualifies as "cold". I spent much of the show standing about six inches behind Greg and I noticed no particular excess of fur. I saw a *lot* of people who didn't seem to understand the consequences of being outside in the mountains at 5000+ feet above sea level after the sun goes down. It got a little chilly, no doubt about that, and when I wandered away from the stage between sets in sweat-soaked clothing I got cold. But it was perfectly tol'able down by the stage where we were. Yep, exactly my point. Standing in a sea of humanity right in front of the stage, there's definitely a temperature gradient involved. Laz and I were right in front of the tower stage front, and the sea of people giving off heat combined with the extreme stillness of the air made it quite pleasant.

Hehe (-: (To answer the original questioner, I'm originally from the Boston area, but in 20 years of L.A. living my blood hasn't thinned out yet. Also, I have some extra insulation courtesy of, erm, Body By Michelin (-: ) ObIDM: Organic by bits review part 3: Underworld. Great duo, shame about the useless 3rd appendage. The poor 3rd guy doesn't seem to know what to do; as he serves no real purpose. If I wanted vocals, etc. ... Guitars? I couldn't hear his, and I don't want to hear guitars. The rest of the time he spent trying to pretend he's Bez from Happy Mondays/Black Grape or something. But the music the other two guys were making was interesting. Sometimes I found it a bit boring (too much samey stuff; same tempos, rhythms, etc.), and other times it was quite good ... and they had excellent visuals to match. Probably the only band during whose set I felt like I really wish I had tried harder to find small letters of the end of the alphabet ... although Orbital was excellent as well, but that's part 4 ... - Greg

Believe it or not, this time it got *colder* after sunrise. Don't ask me why. Maybe my body was shutting down. And we all were there for 13 hours, so it wasn't just you. I find the shorts and t-shirt hard to believe, unless you were chemically enhanced somehow.

I'm not sure what you expected. I've heard enough Orb bootlegs to not be too surprised by how far they stray from the core songs. It was tough to take at that time and place, I'll admit. I want to hear it on tape in a warmer and more awake state of mind.
