Ata Tak was a label for weird "Neue Deutsche Welle". It featured artists like Andreas Dorua und die Marinas (who wouldn't do bad as German Mike Flower Pops), Holger Hiller and other ppl out of the Palais Schaumburg scene. And here we have the connection: Palais Schaumburg featured Thomas Fehlmann (now an Orb / Sun Electric ?) and Moritz von Oswald (yes, Maurizio of Basic Channel fame). So there's the link. I don't have any info on who is running Ata Tak now, or what they are doing. nice info! goes along to explain the Maurizio/Fehlmann collaboration which resulted in "Schizophrenia" on Tresor 3. What a gorgeous track, revealed in the latest Muzik to be a reworking of yet another Manuel Gottsching track, as was "Domina". Anyone else read the article? Anyone know - Is the "unreleased" remix track they referred to the same track which appeared on the BC compilation CD (as e2e4 basic reshape)?? Don't forget the 3MB material, which is Von Oswald/Fehlmann teaming up with collaborators. Remember "Jazz Is The Teacher" -- 3MB & Juan Atkins from a few years back? Completely brilliant track. -d.w.

i also don't know whether ata tak still exists, but first and foremost ata tak (art attack in its original incarnation) was the headquarters of "der plan" (the german "residents" as they are sometimes called) out of duesseldorf who were very influential back then when german bands got interested in fusing electronics with a punk approach in about 1980, later turning into a pop thingy called "neue deutsche welle". they also released other stuff, like dorau's debut and the first deutsch amerikanische freundschaft lp; i'm not sure about their involvement with palais schaumburg though (gotta check at home). greets, p. on last: mille plateaux 26 (with jaki liebezeit on drums)
