Does it piss anyone else off when they hear a decent track but can't get a good 'grip' on the timing of it? A good example of what I mean is 'Maiden Voyage' by Global Communication. I think I've got the timing sorted (i.e. where the beginning of each bar is) until the Xylophone (?) type instrument starts and this ruins the track for me because I can't follow the beat. Has anyone else noticed this? Is this instrument meant to be at the beginning of each bar? Also, what's going on with LTJ Bukem's sets? When the beats kick in the treble is usually reduced and then returns to normal after about 3 seconds. Is this a result of a poor pressing or is it Danny on the EQ? And for my opinion on 'Feed me Weird Things', I rekon it's the shit, but I'm much more excited about the forthcoming work from Mike Paradinas. -Ed P.S. What has Luke Slater's 7th Plain been up to since the 'Shades Amaze concept EP'?

One example is Sequential's "Duane Sky", where the bassdrum appears to be on every off beat (it's not, i just can't tell where the start of the bar is). Blimey, and i thought i was the only person with this problem. - Ben -- /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ |Ben Coffer - 4th Yr Computer Science|| Thanks for listening, reply to: | |Student of sorts. || cb259@gre.ac.uk | |University of Greenwich || "Here...stick this fish in your ear" | \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/

Maiden Voyage is a simple 97bpm drumloop in 4/4 time. , the on beat is 3rd beat of the bar , never changes during the track! , i find mixing using the hi - hats the most accurate way of sync - ing these buggers! , fuck bars and all that shit just feel the groove and you'll get it. sonic assassin@4thworld

I wasn't referring to mixing when I was talking about the timing, it's just that when I listen to the track, I immediately feel disorientated when that new instrument comes in. Just wondered if anyone else experiences this, or even knows what I'm rambling on about. This is my least favourite track on the album and I think it's because of the above reason. -Ed

One that gives me this problem hosever is : Freeform's "Lebanon" I noticed this when I was making a tape copy of Jeff Mills' Purpose Maker 001. I accidentally lopped off the first note of the track "the Dance" [the track with the _very_ tightly looped old KMS sample] and the track sounds completely different to me now. There may be some sort of psychoacoustic thing going on, but my "mental" loop point for the track changed. on now: "Tundra" - Squarepusher [you got a problem with that? :) ] -d.w.
