You can cut and paste MIDI data. Depending on how your sequencer works,
you might be able to put together a few short sequences which are in
themselves not a continuous beat, but can be layered together to create
different beats from different combinations. You can even process the
audio to add grit and grime.
I've never sampled a snippet of drumming any longer than about a second or
two.
To some extent I keep myself ignorant of jungle and d'n'b, so that only
the -idea- of jungle and d'n'b influences me, not others' work.
