yes, the economic/political/social conditions in the south bronx fostered
hip-hop's development, but afrika bambaataa WAS a critical figure in its
growth. he started the zulu nation, which urged kids to use spray cans,
turntables, microphones, and their bodies instead of guns to say "fuck the
system." he, along with dj kool herc (and his "herculords") WERE icons in a
time hip-hop DID NEED them.
