And let's not forget Bambatta's militant extraterrestial and anti-government
stances. There was an interview with him in one of the local San Diego
junglism zines "Survive" where he preached about the government's control and
the existence of aliens as well as how he "created hip-hop". As scenester as
this is going to sound, no one "created" hip-hop, the city created hip-hop,
and by Bambattaa taking credit for that, unneccesary and unattainable icons
were created in the hip-hop community, when hip-hop never needed to have
icons or be icons in the first place. Just another factor that led to the
decay of that particular philosophy/art-form in the 90s...
