I was watching _Fashion File_, one of many God-awful American fashion programs on the e! channel, when who did I see modeling new fashions [from a designer whose name I've regrettfully forgotten]? Goldie. At first I couldn't tell if our gold-toothed d+b pal was really the tall guy on the runway. But there was an actual 15-second sound bite with 'producer' Goldie. Unfortuantely, he wasn't gabbing about music, but, rather, the resurgance of style in London youth culture. It was very odd seeing Goldie on [American] television + I wanted to share the oddness with you. [Can you imagine Richie James modeling clothes for Anna Sui?] On a totally unrelated note, I fell in love [again] with two old albums Friday nght during a 13 hour late night drive through Texas + Louisiana. The CDs in question were Woob's 1194 and Another Fine Day's Life Before Land. What are Mr. Green + our penguin friends up to? Especially Green; his music was absolutely awe inspiring coupled with the backwoods landscape of central Louisiana. I'm in love again! .grant

He'd be a perfect model, but military surplus and jumble shops rarely have fashion shows. --------------------------------------------------------------------- "... when digital distortes it stores a bit on the bottom, breaking the wave. Speaking of Goldie, I got to see him DJ along with Doc Scott here in Orange County at Metropolis (about 25 mins from the G-spot) last Thursday. I'd never seen him DJ before, though I witnessed his so-so live performance opening for Bjork last year here in LA (and for that we missed AFX?) Anyway, Goldie was dressed head to toe in Stussy. I tried to spot an engagement ring on his fingers as he was mixing then realised this was ridiculous - he has big gold rings like a pimp on every finger. He also dances like a freak, he can sure bust a move. Many a Metalheaz white label was spun by Mr. Goldie, the strangest part being that the white labels where labeled (I guess by Goldie) in some sort of weird code. A record by Hidden Agenda (I'm pretty sure) was labeled "Agenda Headzz - STEP!!." Several other records where hand labeled like this but I was only able to make a few of them out. Goldie was ok, but the real shit was hearing Doc Scott spin. He played some incredibly dark and minimal stuff with some brilliant acid overtones on a series of white label ten-inches that just blew me fucking away. Some of the best jungle I've ever heard. They traded the decks for 3 hours but by the time they were done there where like 20 people left in the club. Quite weird looking around at hardly anyone there and here's Goldie DJ'ing right in front of you. Anyway, not a bad way to spend a Thursday... /""'' /"'RESH Live and Direct from the G-Spot Orange County, California, USA

I recently discovered Goldie in the book Spraycan Art (page 65): Goldie, a former break-dancer with the B-Boys crew and a resident of Wolverhampton, believes in working from within the system to achieve his goal of getting his message of social concern out to the public. Consequently, he has worked hard to participate on community projects such as the decoration of the Heathtown school and housing estate where he lives. "If you've got everybody collaborating on a mass scale, you can't be stopped. you can move mountains. If all the kids in this estate were piecing, can you imagine what a beautiful place it would be?" - 1987 Hans ____ _ _ ___ ___ __ ____ Hans Veneman (_ _)( \/ )___ / _ \/ _ \ ___ /__\ ( _ \ hansv@tip.nl )( \ /(___)\_ /\_ /(___)/(__)\ )(_) ) tv99ad@xs4all.nl (__) \/ (_/ (_/ (__)(__)(____/ +31(0)320 235266 http://www.xs4all.nl/~tv99ad---------------------------------->
