Given his recent coolness with Leftfield, I'm gaining an interest...can anyone tell me what to expect if I pick up any of his stuff? Does he do his own stuff or is it just mixes? ---brian -- Save the whales. Collect the whole set. Trade them with your friends. He is one of the fathers of Electro, which means he was one of many guys in the early 80s to play bits of Kraftwerk records and rap on top of them. I dont really think his work with Leftfield work is a good indicator of his records tho. BUT - You gotta love that Jedi Knights remix of him and Leftfield, YUMMY! ernie Ernesto Ikerd, (817) 763-4795 Company Graphics, Dept 17, MZ-4202 Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company Fort Worth, Texas --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

You might be interested in this Uberzone/Afrika Bambataa 12" that came out a few months ago. He's responsible for the classic tune "Planet Rock", which was a big ripoff from Kraftwerk - Trance Europe Express. And who could forget about Time Zone (feat. Afrika Bambataa and John Lydon) - World Destruction..another classic from the 80s. If you go to see him spin these days, it's not a pretty sight. When I saw him his first tune was Cher - Do you Believe... (one of Dylan's favorite tunes) and everything else sucked pretty hard also. Very pop top 40... pretty awful. Very disappointing!! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! And let's not forget Bambatta's militant extraterrestial and anti-government stances. There was an interview with him in one of the local San Diego junglism zines "Survive" where he preached about the government's control and the existence of aliens as well as how he "created hip-hop". As scenester as this is going to sound, no one "created" hip-hop, the city created hip-hop, and by Bambattaa taking credit for that, unneccesary and unattainable icons were created in the hip-hop community, when hip-hop never needed to have icons or be icons in the first place. Just another factor that led to the decay of that particular philosophy/art-form in the 90s... -soapbox racer jon --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

yes, the economic/political/social conditions in the south bronx fostered hip-hop's development, but afrika bambaataa WAS a critical figure in its growth. he started the zulu nation, which urged kids to use spray cans, turntables, microphones, and their bodies instead of guns to say "fuck the system." he, along with dj kool herc (and his "herculords") WERE icons in a time hip-hop DID NEED them. zachary zim200@is7.nyu.edu --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
