I just got a promo of an excellent new Detroit comp on, of all labels, Astralwerks. Ten beautiful tracks of Detroit bliss with cool comic book-esque artwork by Alan Oldham (DJ T1000). I believe that some of the tracks on this comp have been previously but there isn't a single poor track throughout. I love the opening ultrasmooth track by Claude Young and the electro workouts by Will Web & Ectomorph and the wicked groove of Sean Deason & K.Hand and the thumping bass- madness of Shake, DJT1000, and Terrence Dixon. Detroit: Beyond the Third Wave CD/2xLP ASW6170 (Astralwerks) 1. Claude Young: impolite to refuse 2. Sean Deason: vortex 3. Kosmic Messenger: 8th wonder (wanderer's mix) 4. K.Hand: come on now baby 5. Shake: sandblaster 6. Ectomorph: insert another data disk 7. Will Web: life on tek (bumpin' down jefferson mix) 8. DJ T1000: solid signal 9. Terrence Dixon: midnight hours 10. Mode Selector: last trip From start to finish I really like this comp. I imagine that the exposure the artists on this comp will get from this release will send sales of Detroit music soaring. Release date is said to be on May 21 -->-Lance--- mclance@en.com

Do you know anything about Claude Young? I bought that DJ kicks - Carl Craig, the track by Claude Young is really great. I was going to try and find some of his music. I also heard, that the remix he does on that Sensorama comp is suppose to be great. I've also read decent reviews about khand's new cd, is it pretty good. The only track I have heard by her is Global Warming on Warp. I didn't think she was a Detroit artist, I thought I read a review saying she was from Georgia or somewhere in the south. Looks like a great compilation!! +------------------------+ William L Samuels wls@U.Arizona.EDU +------------------------+

No. Kelli is very much from Detroit. She moved to Atlanta, Georgia for a year, but now resides in Detroit again. The media has a tendancy to get the facts mixed up and confused. Visit the Submerge web pages ( http://www.submerge.com/ ) for bio's and discographies Kelli Hand and many of the other artists who appear on this compilation. Matrix Records ph/fax: 312.640.1378
