Coldcut et al. do it AGAIN!
Just to add my two cents to this review, I picked up a copy of this disc and rushed home to try the interactive that is available with the disc called 'Tonetrakker'.
You MUST pick up this disc if you have a multimedia PC or Mac. The interactive is nothing short of brilliant.
It is a bank of three CD mixing decks (which look like some kind of strange hybrid 1200/CD players), with a pile of CDs at the bottom of the screen. The CDs are actually samples from the album, and elsewhere. You drag the CDs onto the various decks, and they play. Each one of the CD players has a volume control, allowing you to change the mix around to your liking.
It gets better: You can drag multiple (ie: up to 5) 'CDs' onto EACH deck, and they will play 'A/B/A/B', or A/B/C/A/B/C, depending on how many you drag onto each deck. It will sometimes take a bit to sync up all the various samples, but the creation of grooves is an extremely satisfying experience, and all the samples are wicked.
It gets even better. There are in fact three SETS of screens, each containing three distinct sets of about 15-20 samples to fiddle with. So you have a trip hop/breaks/whatever section, a housey/technoish section (I'm glossing here), and a slower dubby section.
The liner to the CD says you can find the software at their website, but I looked for a while and was unable to find it to direct all a youse to the site.
In any case, I highly recommend you pick up the disc, as it will provide you and your friends with hours (or an hour, depending of the attention span of you and your friends) of beated enjoyment.
That's all now, time for pie.
