sc> Marky Mark will be playing live, DJ Shadow, James Lavelle and sc> Charlie(of Attica Blues) will be DJing. They where here in Amsterdam as well. Attica Blues was live better than I expected, but I went to this Mo' Wax Night to see (hear) the DJ's... Shadow was very good, with some brilliant parts and some lesser parts (just ordinary mixing with hip-hop tracks like Brand Nubian, Tribe Called Quest etc). James Lavelle is a *brilliant* dj. I didn't recognise more than 5 records, and they where ALL good. He was doing more than just mixing. Maybe a effect-processor and a fat echo-unit for sure. Mixing weird records together into something like jungle and dub, with ambient and jazz on the background. After that some other DJ (also a Mo' Wax guy) started to play tunes. Started off good, but after a while it's just getting more and more like standard jungle kinda thing..

Brilliant! I haven't heard much from Marky Mark lately ... do you know if the rest of The New Kids On The Block will be there? They're my faves. :) Hopefully sarcastic enough ... <grin> Ian (floe:MaddogMgmt.) >> Toronto'Ontario

a week ago I attended a Mo Wax night in the new hall in the Milky Way, Amsterdam featuring a.o. DJ Shadow, DJ James Lavelle and Attica Blues live The night started out with some cool oldschool HipHop sounds, flabbergasting all the incrowd who had came to hear the records all their friends were talking about. Lighting was kept very low, which was a pity for the Milky Way who had rented extra Scans for quite a lot of money (...) Attica Blues was not something to really watch and pay attetion to but very good to dance to or to just let your ear relax to while talking to a good friend (which is what I did). All this of course MHO. Later on the MoWax crew spun some serious drum & bass and kept going with that till the end. I was amazed. I hadn't heard a single bad record all night and was astounded by some of the scratching going on... You get a chance to check these guys out ? Yeah I attended the Sydney night of the tour last saturday (30/12/95). The night was pretty cool with Money Mark (not Marky Mark) being the only one playing live and a lot of that was sequenced, BUT he did way cool things with feedback and a harmonica not to mention his keyboards. The man must have the strongest keyboard stand i've ever seen as he jumped up onto his keyboard bent down and started playing it with one hand and in the the other hand he had a mic and a harmonica which he played brilliantly. The other guy's all just DJ'ed for the night, with the best DJ undoubtly being DJ Shadow (who I think was the last DJ to play,if he wasn't well the best DJ was the last one, anyway). He's set was a little more uptempo than the others with him playing some excellent and surprising tunes such as 808 State's "Pacific State", Josh Wink's "Higher State of Conciousness (Freekin tweakin acid mix)", Goldie's "Inner City Life" and surprise surprise Oasis's "Wonderwall" which surprisingly got the crowd dancing. My only real criticism of the night was that most of the music was just too slow (really laidback trip hop) to dance to... no real problem, because almost all of it was amazing to listen to. Though my partner and I wanted to dance more... we hit the dancefloor during DJ Shadow's set. Which was as I said amazing. Good night, especially if you're into trip-hop and the slower side of dance, jungle, etc. Regards, John /-------------------------------------------------------------------\ | JOHN BUS (aka.
