i like this whole system of regurgitating mindless sayings in order to make oneself look impressive and credible. has anyone on this list ever experienced what happens when a list starts yapping about off topic subjects too much. THE WHOLE LIST GOES DOWN THE SHITTER! i just came off dj shadow's "in/flux" list which has predominantly nothing to do with dj shadow. examples of subjects: salad dressing ways to get a guy off cd vs. vinyl (without stopping) and all that other shit... for the love of god, i actually enjoy this list because it belittles my knowledge. it's nice to know that you only know about 30-40% of the artists being spoken of and that's the whole point. this list is a discussion group of I(ntelligent) D(ance) M(usic) and things related to it. where will the line be drawn once we start going and exploring other realms of music? Some of us are "narrowminded" because we don't want to talk about other types of music. when i wanna yap about turntabilism, i post to influx. when i wanna talk about techno, i check idm. it's that simple. history is bound to repeat itself if we ignore the warning of this young one's vision: keep it real! most humbled, shaun --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

It's called a DELETE button. If the topic doesn't interest you: delete beep beep!! It isn't that hard. I've been on the idm list for four years now, and there are only two reasons why I have stayed on the list: 1) informative idm related posts by the likes of lance and greg, and 2) informative non-idm music posts by the likes of multsanta and others about such stuff as d'angelo, hip hop, industrial or whatever. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE OFF TOPIC POSTS, that's what makes the list interesting and that's what keeps it from getting monotonous. As long as there isn't a plethora of 'non-music' off-topic posts about silly stuff like candy, salad, boxer briefs, slugged up grills, dvd porn, ect.. everything is kool and the gang. FUCK! Quit whining about stupid shit people and lets talk about music. Time for you elitist terds to deal with the 'occasional' off topic posts and open your minds a little. If this crap keeps up, we're gonna lose greg and lance too. Dont worry, I'm not leaving anytime soon but I agree that the signal-to-noise ratio is getting pretty bad lately and I'm sorry to see David Turgeon and Multsanta go. Both were clued-in list vets that will be missed. -->-Lance--- lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

For once in my IDM life I am going to disagree with U Lance! Turgeon sent me these damn intellectually hollow E's that I could have done without......despite how long one has been on the list, if you Dont JUST deal with music---like you have taught---then its just talk, irrelevant......and I am guilty of it too sometimes! So with nothing left to say............... Help me with this one(a review or gen. information) Kevin Yost album, One Starry Night Thanks, Hk!

Kevin Yost is one of the best US deep house producers/remixers as of late. From his New Jersey-based studio he has produced over 20 12"s, mostly on his own I Records label, and has just as many remix appearances as well. His One Starry Night cd is basically a compilation of his best tracks from his 12" releases. One Starry Night was released domestically in the states on I Records and in the UK on Distance. I dont personally have this comp but I do have several of his 12"s and if it's anything like the other stuff I have by him then it should be great. Fans of the Guidance label sound, which is actually where Kevin got his start, should check this one out. Here is the release info: . Kevin Yost: one starry night cd (Distance/I Records) Tracks: - One Starry Night - Unpredictable (U) - Dreams of You - Hypnotic Progressions (Part 1) - If She Only Knew - Outta Space - 15 Dreams - The Things We Do - Sunset:Secrets Hope this helps! -->-Lance--- lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Amen, brother, I scroll down the list of new messages with my delete key. If a topic doesn't interest me, or it's a thread that bothered me, hit the 'delete' key. It's not that hard. I don't really see what the bitching is about, since most of the messages about 'off-topic' bands are always somewhat self-conscious about the obvious non-IDM content, and sometimes even contain valid 2nd paragraphs about other things. I get a little irritated when people unapologetically bring up non-IDM stuff constantly, but I haven't seen that much of it. I, for one, don't particularly care for the music that the majority of this list calls IDM anyways, so I'm always happy for a little bit of Ninjatune or Jazz Fudge news. -----Original Message----- From: PLeXitMIND@aol.com <PLeXitMIND@aol.com> To: sbabakha@videon.wave.ca <sbabakha@videon.wave.ca> Cc: idm@hyperreal.org <idm@hyperreal.org>; multsanta@sprynet.com <multsanta@sprynet.com> Date: Thursday, January 27, 2000 12:47 AM Subject: Re: (idm)RE: "bring the drama, playa"

Same here. Furthermore, even the "specialized" stores here don´t stock a lot of the stuff discussed bar the bigger label output (such as Warp and Ninja Tune) so this is the only real place where I can hear about latest releases and get recommendations on interesting artists etc. >this list is a discussion group of I(ntelligent) D(ance) M(usic) and things related to it. > >where will the line be drawn once we start going and exploring other realms of music? > Where indeed ? Should lines be drawn at all ?? From what I´ve read thru the years on this list, Id say pretty much everything is fair game for exploration, so long as it meets some or all the criteria put forward in the explanation. I, for one, am interested in hearing your definition of IDM, as chances are it will be as unique as the next persons. > >Some of us are "narrowminded" because we don't want to talk about other types of music. > Then by all means, dont say anything...just DELete. It´s never THAT simple, and I have the archives to prove it. And as far as keeping it real goes, I think most of us are..even tho you may not agree with what´s said and done. >most humbled, shaun Replies are welcome btw.
