didn't think they had much at all. Almost no techno cds and very few 12"ers. Was I looking in the right place? I did get Bradleys Beat from there though. The cheapness of Sister Ray was what caught my attention. _In Pine Effect_ was 3.50 cheaper than Tower records, which is write to your MP material. Or firebomb Tower Records material. _In Pine Effect_ is very poor IMHO BTW. Paradinas is fucking up bigstyle :( :(

Heh, they had both UR drexciya 12"ers. Which is quite amusing. I'm not proud. They do have a good magazine library as well :) Most funny thing in the world at the time - truely wish I'd had a camera. They were selling CD crystal box insert thingys (just the bit with the supporting ring), for 49p. For an extra 49p you could have the case to put it in. Incredible. But they did have both the grey and clear plastic varieties.

Try "Resoraz". I don't think the album got very far... g3 g The WARP Web Site 3 0 3 http://www.ncl.ac.uk/~n264671/wap-indx.html

Greg, remember that this is Mike's _SAW 85-92_ in the sense that, like Rich James, he got his friends to choose the tracks - he has said himself that he doesn't think it's that good... I like one or two tracks on there but for the most part, I'd have to agree with him - it hasn't grown on me at all. !?!?!?!?! That does it then, someone is clearly spiking the water supply in Blighty and Oz; it's driving everyone stark raving bonkers!!! (Either that or it's final proof that I've completely lost touch with The Youth Of Today; these neurons running around in our skulls are funny things) I'm barely into my 2nd pass through "In Pine Effect" and already I have to say that the 3rd track ("The Wailing Song") and (especially) the 4th track ("Old Fun #1") are phenominal fusings of classical orchestration and strings with Mike's own style. They both blow "Icct Hedral" into the weeds. I'm amazed there are this many negative reactions to this record. It rocks! :-p - That Other Greg (sans 303)

Unfortunately, some of us don't have that option :-)

Since most US readers have not heard In Pine Effect yet, let me respectfully beg to differ. 'In Pine Effect' is head and shoulders above most of what is being released these days. I'm concerned that people won't buy it because it's been slagged here, and I think that would be a shame. In my opinion what works against muZiq is that the idiosyncracies of his style were so fresh 2 years ago that everyone fell in love with 'Tango' and the luck few with 'Bluff'. Since then everyone has imitated the idiosyncracies of his style, meaning that his music is no longer sounds 'cutting edge.' But LISTEN to it. LISTEN to it again. The man composes. He improvises. He builds mad beats and breaks. He makes songs that go somewhere. He does NOT set up a 909 and a 303 and twiddle knobs for 8 minutes and call it a track. There's some emotion, melodies, and motion to his music. Feel free to dislike it, but don't do so unless you really give it a chance and meet it halfway. The music I still listen to 25 years after first hearing it (how many of you can say that?) is music that I wasn't sure I liked when I first heard it. The stuff that instantly grabs you sometimes doesn't have the same staying power. -- kent.williams@cadsi.com [Kent Williams/CADSI/2651 Crosspark Rd/Coralville IA 52241/(319)626-6700] 3 Reasons Why Not to use OS/2: Half of the prisons in the United States are run by OS/2. Agreed - I thought _Bytes_ was cack after the first few listens. But, _Pine_ isn't one of those albums that is going to be played in 25 years. Its *good* but compared with _Bluff_ and _Tango_ it's patchy and uncohesive. And remember that when people (like me) have reviewed it, we have done so on the basis of one or two listens - I could wait a year or so before reviewing it to gauge properly how I feel about it. But by then most people wouldn't really be interested :) I'll carry on listening to it and if it grows on me, then I'll let you know... || [CiM] || s.walley@uea.ac.uk || http://www.sys.uea.ac.uk/~u9323899/
