Now that is a definition of 'IDM'. Nicely put. I would certainly be interested in others take on this. I'm finding that most of what I am buying and enjoying as of late definitely fits into this 'category'. I'm Usually very impressed by people who come up with original sound design and make it work well in a song, Phoenecia's Odd jobs cd and the latest Plateau disk being good examples, as opposed to the 'hey look what I can do with Pluggo'. Not to say that this is the be all end all of genre defining. Its just seems to work pretty well in relation to my current tastes. m.

I agree, I think I will quote that one whenever someone asks what kind of music I listen to/spin , then presents the usual puzzlement and questions over the meaning of IDM. Some may or may not agree here... but I think its partly the roots in those noted "accomplishments" of past pioneers that makes the "Experiment" so earth shaking to those of us with open ears. Once re-processed in a more progressive context, the subtle familiarity contained in releases like "Odd Jobs", to me, creates a sort of foward Deja Vu to a past that did not exist, inducing a sense of wonder over the future. While projecting a style that is highly original, Phonecia most definitely draws some influence from S.Florida's collective conscious - embedded with booming rythyms that we Miami residents have been exposed to for the past decade and a half. Can you say anything else about the latest Plateau? Anybody got a Review? -phred Matthew Allen wrote:

from a post I made a while back: I haven't see any mention of this and it has been out for awhile. The plateau album (spacecake) is a winner. It sounds more like a download album than a plateau album though. Sorta like if music for grass bars was merged with III. Styles range from noisy collages to mind numbing techno (with a download edge). The first track completely blew me away. Out of nowwhere a break appears and then disappears. It is amped more than anything else in the track and accurately sets the mood for the rest of the CD. IDM fans should take note of this CD. Keywords: noisy, serene, sublime and haunting. -daniel: Head Monkey: Mad Monkey Records: http://monkey.eliteware.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
