When did I say anything against preprogramed stuff? I said I dislike hearing a sample looped over and over again and 'pre-programed sampled beats' - refering to the amount of acid-jazz(and techno) that is nothing but basic chords of other people's playing. I dont see the energy that is in jazz, in bad structure of other people's music. It's like cold fish. I'm tottaly into electronic and programed music, I do it myself.

Your diggin your own hole there... Once again I'm all for electronic equipment, the newer and more fucked up( and allownces of FAT SLACK!) the better.

Having your own standards is old fashioned? ok!

Sure have. Quite often, and I enjoy it too!

etc. I'm familiar with all of these, and some of it's great! But would you really call these bands 'acid-jazz' ??

No it's not - real acid jazz doesn't rip off other people's music - they're real musicians who play everything themselves - where have you got this idea that they sample other people? Just because it's called 'acid' jazz doesn't mean they use samplers all the time...

You should never start an email like that, don't bloody apologise - if you really meant it you wouldn't have posted, and anyway it hasn't got _that_ boring yet :) <no flame intended> ....

That wasn't the case with "acid" house either, at least not until the UK scene developed - the original chicago "acid" sound in 1987 meant 303, as it does now, the UK "acid" scene of 88 was quite a different thing imo. But your statement is of course equally true if you substitute "303s" for "samplers" I guess I've takena bit of a tangent there - back to the core: The name "Acid Jazz" was surely introduced as something of a play on words or joke due to the trendiness/hype/whatever surrounding "acid house".
