You guys ever heard about Csound ? Free Runs on a mac (even on a plus in some versions) With an audiomedia card or up it gets better (sound qualtiy) The programming interface sucks but, aaaah the possbilities It also runs on various Unix systems and IRCAM made a MAX version of it for their IRCAM workstation alas only runs on a NeXT Cube with an expensive card in it...does real time then though on a normal mac it will work only you have to program your sounds & score and then wait for the result.. the Kyma system is better at that...sure... Word has it Csound runs realtime on power macs (MIDI included) For better details (I am not a *real* specialist anybody correct me if I'm wrong anywhere) why not check a Csound site: http://www.leeds.ac.uk/music/Man/c_front.html have fun... Allert Allert Aalders - Big Time Concepts - allert@knoware.nl - allert@riv.nl why not check http://www.riv.nl/yuliana - a Bio Boostin' Music server shape on IRC - mostly on #digistad

Every so often discussions of music gear ends up in IDM, which strictly speaking is off-topic. Rather than be a net-weenie-policeman may I direct your attention to two mailing lists where this sort of discussion is deliriously ON-Topic: Electronica is the perfect place to discuss Kyma, Csound, and other such sundry topics.

Todd Sines aka 'Enhanced' who has a cut on Planet E's "Elements of and Experiments With Sound" compilation. He's not been as active on the list, apparently haven gotten a life. Big up Todd!
