yesterday mclance@ix.netcom.com drew attention to beau hannant's latest, typing:

he explained that richard brown, hannant's engineer, co-produced the tracks. (brown is also rhythm invention, cherry bomb & 50% of yo3). then went on:

am not so sure myself. these are reworkings of a track which surfaced on 'tastes & textures' (gpr) two years ago. unfortunately the effects are more detrimental, with original components being dismantled. i'm unconvinced that the direction is new, considering the challenges within the recordings on 'sculptured' or the lida husik collaboration 'ormeau'. whereas those releases were wayfully individualistic, the latest are rather derivative by comparison. these remixes might aim to reflect upon the development of hannant's output, but i believe they detract rather than complement that development. sorry. *des*

whilst it's great that james skilton & lance c. mcgannon are down with the remixes, your perspectives might differ if you knew the original. if opportunity arises, check the cut on 'tastes & textures vol.1' released as genp(x)14. ciao, *des*

I have the original, as I thought my email hinted: "like the original with the rough edges smoothed off". I think most of the remixes are an improvement on the original, but I stand by my suggestion that remixing old material is not exactly a way forward in most cases.
