yesterday mclance@ix.netcom.com drew attention to beau hannant's latest, typing:
quoted 2 lines Instead of the melodic ambi-techno style of past releases, I was greeted with>Instead of the melodic ambi-techno style of past releases, I was greeted with >>dark-acidic techno reminiscent of Autechre's 1994 LP "Incunabula."
he explained that richard brown, hannant's engineer, co-produced the tracks. (brown is also rhythm invention, cherry bomb & 50% of yo3). then went on:
quoted 2 lines For Beaumont Hannant, this is a bold new direction and one that IDM>For Beaumont Hannant, this is a bold new direction and one that IDM >fans will greatly appreciate. I certainly do.
am not so sure myself. these are reworkings of a track which surfaced on 'tastes & textures' (gpr) two years ago. unfortunately the effects are more detrimental, with original components being dismantled. i'm unconvinced that the direction is new, considering the challenges within the recordings on 'sculptured' or the lida husik collaboration 'ormeau'. whereas those releases were wayfully individualistic, the latest are rather derivative by comparison. these remixes might aim to reflect upon the development of hannant's output, but i believe they detract rather than complement that development. sorry. *des*
