James Lavelle's Abstract Scientific Shit From the Gates of Hell With Vibes 1 What Does Your Soul Look Like? DJ Shadow (Mo' Wax) 2 The Beast (Remixes) Palm Skin Productions (Mo' Wax) 3 Karma Coma (UNKLE Remix) Massive Attack (acetate) 4 Cry Money Mark (Mo' Wax/Love Kit 7") 5 Various Cheap LP Kuts Patrick Pulsinger (Cheap) 6 Cover Action Urban Tribe (Retroactive) 7 Exotica Skylab (white label) 8 Warning Firefox and 4 Tree (Phillie Blunt) 9 Various Kuts The Prunes (Excursions) 10 Catatonic (carl craig mix) Kenny Larkin (R&S) This top ten looks like a "Ha ha, look at all the stuff I have that you don't" list. The DJ Shadow track is the legendary 40 minute single, the UNKLE mixes of Massive Attack have yet to be released (arrgh!), the remixes of the Beast (Original out this week, remixes not out yet) include remixes by DJ Krust/Roni Size (Jungle), Autechre (!) and Global Communication (!!). The Money Mark track is some guy doing porno cheezy funk stuff out of LA, I think you can buy the original, but not the Mo' Wax version. The new Skylab (!) is a white label. The only stuff I've ever seen here is the Kenny Larkin track and I think Patrick Pulsinger has a 12" out on R&S right now. All this info came out of the 21 Jan. issue of NME, which is quite good. There's some event happenning tomorrow with Renegade Soundwave, Depth Charge, James Lavelle, A Guy Called Gerald, mu-ziq, Dread Zone, LTJ Bukem, DJ Evolution and more. Also reviewed is the new Jedi Knights single on Clear as well as the new one by Tuscen Raiders (mu-ziq) called Bantha Trax. I guess everything has to do with Star Wars sooner or later... Jonathan ps I never thought I could crosspost a message to a-j and idm...

It's called _Dogmatic Sequences II_ I think, although R&S are only licensing it as far as I know. It sounds *alot* like something Christian Vogel would do, IMHO. I haven't heard or seen Pulsinger's 2x12" on Cheap (which was on Lavelle's chart). It's supposed to be half Brazilian-tinged jazz-funk, half scary Hawtin-esque stuff. Sounds cool, no?

Here are those reviews if anyone is interested (reprinted sans permission, of course): Tuscen Raiders: Bantha Trax (Clear) [Reviewed by Mark & Tom of Global Comm.] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The force flows with the second release forthcoming on the freshest new label since Streetsounds in '85. Five furiously funky experimental new-school electro tracks to pop and break to. Rumour has it that the mysterious producers of these tracks are distant relatives of Mike 'Mu-Ziq' Paradinas. Uncles or aunties perhaps? The plot thickens. Soon everything will become... Jedi Knights: Noddy Holder (Clear) [Reviewed by John Mulvey] ------------------------------------------------------------ 'Planet Rock'-style electro from the band with 1,001 names (Reload, Global Communication, Link, Evolution, Banana Snorkel), a relentless sequence of funny voices and heavy, skeletal, old-school beats that fit in nicely with the way British techno - inspired by Mo' Wax, The Dust Brothers, Depth Charge et al - has started getting funkier in the past few months. Expect mirrored top hats, muttonchop sidies and eight-inch platforms when, as Global, they play the Brats Vibes night at the end of the week. Crazee. My question is, of course, when the hell are these records going to be out? Does anyone have any idea? I'm getting anxious.. :) - Matthew

The Pulsinger is called _Dogmatic Sequences Vol.2_ (I think its Vol.2). My mate has the original copy on Disko B; very nice indeed. There is this amazing techno/jazz hybrid track that's to die for. The rest is distorted beats and phunky sounds. || [CiM] || u9323899@sys.uea.ac.uk || http://www.sys.uea.ac.uk/~u9323899/
