You are so right. How bout this http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/radioshark/ D-link used to make one, but I don't see it on their page anymore. It had a usb connection for tuning the station but the sound output came in over line-in. Stand-alone computer-based FM/AM boxes are harder to come by these days because the parts are so cheap, they need to be bundled with more functionality (ie. TV tuning) to be worth selling.
