It's a strange proposition for me that an entire album can be 'absolutely
ruined' by one line of text. To be honest, I didn't even register that line.
If I even perceived it, it didn't hang around and influence my perception of
the album as a whole.
An analogy: the Esem track 'ilkae' from a couple of years ago contains a preset
synth sound which when it appears grates on me terribly. I hate that sound. But
I still listen to the track and the rest of the EP and do not allow this to
overspill onto my overall enjoyment.
I don't know what others think about this. If you order a starter in a
restaurant which has a nasty taste, is the rest of meal rendered totally
unstomachable?

We have to take the statement about sense of humour on trust. But as for the
rest of the statement, it seems to contain a number of embedded assumptions and
value judgments, which I personally would also question, namely:-
- that a piece of text must be saying something 'of value' to justify its
inclusion on a piece of music.
- that 'value' is a property that can be attributed to something independently
of the valuer's appraisal system.
- that something needs to be said 'in an objective way' to validate it.
- that 'stupidity' is an attribute that operates independently of the valuer's
appraisal system
etc
Not wishing to labour the point, but... ;-)

I'm not sure what's being said here. What albums would be proposed as
having this 'conceptual depth' that Proem's lacks?

It seems to me that the concepts of 'character and atmosphere' and the notion of
'what I feel needs to happen' are entirely spurious except as reference points
for people who know what the poster of this e-mail's musical predilections are.

Er...
