Just got my latest copy of The Wire the yesterday - I'm at present a
subscriber and have been reading the magazine pretty continuously for the
past 15 years... I was quite amused to see this list getting a good bashing
in cover star's Kid606 interview by both its subject and interviewer Peter
Shapiro:
PS: "Of course, electronic music, particularly in these postrave days, is
about the least dangerous thing around - as smug and smooth and uniform and
unchallenging as a freeloading fashion PR bathing in Creme De La Mer in an
Ian Schrager boutique hotel..."
- So danger is the most important element of music - darn I hadn't
realised... Confield is easy listening, BoC pure indulgence, Tetsu Inoue,
Mouse on Mars, Pole et al all merely creating paeans to consumerism - I'd
better give all those cds away...
PS: "Depedro [Kid606's real name] sneers, half declaring war on the pockface
IDM massive..."
- having acne's a crime as well apparently...
K: "It sucks that the IDM list [the Internet's long running "intelligent
dance music" newsgroup] is like our drama to make things seem more exciting"
Kid606 moans a lot about the obsession of IDM fans with equipment, etc, etc.
I know this is his schtick which is why I'm amused, but I do resent the
trashing of what for better or worse is some kind of online community.
All the best,
Colin.
