There's a lot of fuss made a bout the relationship between hiphop and IDM, but what of dancehall reggae? No, really I'm being serious. Tracks like "Wilmot (Red Snapper remix)" by Sabres of Paradise owe a lot to dancehall. Hiphop and dancehall are pretty closely related except dancehall is perhaps more melodic and a lot more stripped down. Also it has that wonderful lop-sided beat which just makes me itch all over. I remember hearing my first dancehall reggae back in '97 which, for me, was the best period. Artists like Red Rat, Beenie Man, Buccaneer, Buju Banton...sheer class! It seems to me that an IDM/dancehall fusion would work very well and I'm curious: does anyone here know of any dancehall reggae- (and I don't mean dub) influenced IDM out there? Apart from "Wilmot" I can't think of any. Cheers for any leads, G-love. http://www.gram.org.uk _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
