Um.... how shall I phrase this response... If up until now, you (in general) discounted house because the rhythmic programming was way less adventurous than in IDM, you missed the point. It would be damned near impossible to write a thesis on the essence of house music and its appeal, but it's safe to say that at this point in time, people arn't drawn to it because of its innovation. House defines the groove in dance music. The 'i want to dance and let my body go' groove, the 'i want to close my eyes and drift off' groove, the 'i want to make sweet love' groove, or the animalistic 'i want to fuck' groove. All of the little intricacies that go past 64th note+ resolution are what contribute to the draw. House is live, house is human. Nothin you said below is wrong, but here's a little excercise. Find a party or club with a quality house DJ. Go out, have a few drinks, watch everyone going off. If it doesn't click, no harm done. Otherwise it will be a good experience. Even easier: See if you can get Mr. Bleepbloop's second CD. he hits just about every intelligent style of house. It really is quite a good education. -- And yes, I know and love Ae, schematic, skam, morr, etc... by the same token, I know and love Naked music, Paper, guidance, plastic city, glasgow underground, etc... While I have the mic, I just want to add, I was totally dissapointed with Luomo - it was not _house_. More at vladislav delay below 130 bpm. -Gil ps - I had the new photek in constant rotation for about 2 weeks. It was quality, the house ventures were a lot of fun.
