okay i used to discount house music as simplistic and unneccessary but the
key to really appreciating house in my opinion, is shifting your focus
from the 4-on-tha-floor kick pattern to everything else that's going on
around it ... of course there is bad house, but the entire style can't be
dismissed just because the beats arent' constantly mutating ... a good
analogy to the 4/4 kick pattern of house is a handrail on a walkway ...
it's not the main feature, it's just there to serve as a guide for happy
dancers, and the main feature is the rhythms that occur around the 4/4 and
melodies and ambience of the music. keep in mind that the primary
function of house music is to keep a dancefloor bump'n not to
intellectually stimulate skinny whiteboyz. to be blunt, it gets people
laid.
i got the new photek, i think it's excellent. his programming skills
translate well to house and it's brave of him to try new styles even if
many of his fans wont' understand it. Maybe it will open some people's
eyes to new styles, or make them rethink judgements they have made. Or
maybe not. At any rate, as far as drum-n-bass is concerned it's like Dr.
