I haven't actually seen the Herbaliser live, so I can't make a comparison to
that, but "Session One" is actually very, very cool. Since it's literally a
big band (sax, trombone, drums, bass, guitar, trumpets, plus turntables and
random other stuff) it sounds very much like a lot of 20's/30's big band
music to me, *except that I like it*. Most, if not all, of the songs are
versions of songs from Very Mercenary. It's irresitably funky and over the
top in a high school pep band sort of way.
(I realize that's not the most shining comparison, but just imagine the
greatest freakin' pep band in the world with Ollie Teeba on the decks, this
is what that would sound like. =P )
Now if that doesn't make you want to go right out and buy it . . . hehehe
