I agree - to me the only use for terms like IDM is locating the music in the
record shops, I would hate to associate myself with a genre to the point of
excluding everything else. I'm speaking as an ex-goth here :) If I was
making the music OTOH I would probably want to deny any association with a
genre, or at least change the subject vary quickly. I guess categorization
is an especially bad thing if it's you that's being categorized...

I don't see it myself either. I would question what the writer actually
knows about the music itself. I subscribe to this list because it gives me
information about the music I like which tends to be stuff with a large
amount of feeling and soul, not art for arts sake. Even the most
experimental stuff has to have that, that's what I like about stuff like
Gramm and Vladislav Delay, that it can be progressive and still retain that
human element.
