I thought I'd save bandwidth and weigh in on a bunch of stuff that's been flying around the list this week in one e-mail. first...

er ... it's not so much an album as a track ... but thanks for the mention :) watch out for a split 12" this summer on Skam, don't know who's on the other side yet...

see, this is the problem with a name like Intelligent Dance Music -- it suggests that other Dance music is NON-Intelligent ... I'm not saying there isn't a huge mess of dumb dance music out there but it's not so much the "intelligence" of the music that intrigues me as the individualism. I think the #1 rule of making this "IDM" is trying to push boundaries in directions they haven't been pushed before. When the boundaries get pushed out, it opens up much more space for the "genre" ( i hate genres ) to grow. But these boundaries get pushed by people other than Booth/Brown/James/Jenkinson/IDM-Artist-Of-The-Minute. To wax geometric for a moment: IDM is one very interesting face on a pan-dimensional mega-hedron that is modern music, and just as the IDM face gets stretched into new territory, other faces deform as a result. The opposite is true as well.

I have only been on this list for a couple weeks so perhaps I am seeing an anomaly that will correct itself soon but I have to say this is by far the most negative, snotty list I have ever been on. The whole POINT of an e-mail list is to share information and express opinions. For people to jump all over other list members for asking questions and expressing opinions (even though they may not be shared by a single other person on the list) seems juvenille and elitist.

A poster to a list should never feel inclined to use a disclaimer like that... Maybe I'm just a hippie.
