One can argue that all music revolves around math. The first western
musical theory was documented by Pythagoreas and involved calculating
mathematical ratios between two notes to construct a scale. It gets
really weird after that, with people constructing mathematical charts of
the universe with music as the root...but anyway that's all from a book
called Measure for Measure by Thomas Levenson.
Autechre on the other hand might use math in any way they see fit. It
would probably be the best idea to ask them instead of all us list bots.
I would assume that they synthesize their own sounds digitally, some
people have mentioned that they use (or have used) Csound, which is very
math intensive.
That's all I can really say without rambling for hours. If you want me
to, just ask, cause i always can...
in obscurity,
lee
