on that note, this is my last idm-l message & i'm now unsubscribing!
if a bunch of intelligently written, on-topic, short reviews can manage
not to welcomed by certain members of this list, then perhaps its
moderators should seriously question its purpose as an informative list
& stop misleading new subscribers & clearly state that idm-l is from
this point onward to be considered mostly an ebay-trader hangout & the
place where autechre-sniffers meet to discuss hidden tracks & what
lotion sean & rob use to masturbate on their dsp box.
of course, if the only reason why i'm leaving was that i'm being
offended by an uneducated comment, you could probably think me a wuss,
but in fact, the complete lack of INTELLIGENCE displayed on this list in
the past few months has done its share to offend me, if you ask.
in many a previous thread, a lot of you were quick to dissmiss the word
'intelligence' itself as elitist: well, be glad, what you called elitism
(& which i would term the 'practical arrangement of a group of
likeminded people') has now turned into a free-for-all mess where every
passing idiot can irresponsibly claim their right to throw hasty
comments & petty insults while never adding any pertinent content,
whereas content is what ANY mailing list (hell, any source of
information) should be about. but for now i shall resort to the excuse
of the weak philosophers: 'if the people want it...' & leave it at that.
& to all of those i may have offended during my stint on this list: as a
co-worker worded the other day, 'it's only words' to which i may
precise: 'it's only opinion.' all of you who took my little rants as
face value would do well to go back to watching television where they
really do want you to believe everything they say.
private replies are welcome & questions will be answered (not that i
think there's any questions to be asked!). insults will be laughed at &
then sent to the trash.

ps: i know such a message is ultimately useless & will be regarded if
anything as primadonnalike or whatnot. what can i say: i do feel
genuinely mad about a list with so much potential going to shits because
of certain people not following certain simple, logical, _sensible_
ethical guidelines & thus i feel it my 'duty' to adress this problem if
for the last time. a true philosophical idealism in the russellian
sense, & sue me.
ps2: community is a nice thing, but it will never work without certain
rules which are mostly common sense. & when certain people choose to be
above them, that's when policing has to get into the picture & wastes a
good thing entirely by replacing genuine cooperation with a forced
submission into following laws.
